Descriptive geologic data from measured sections, drill holes, and geochemical analyses are being computerized in cooperation with the U.S. Geological Survey National Coal Resource Data System. Line and area data, including coal croplines, surface mines, and underground mines, are being digitized into computer-aided mapping systems and transferred to the geographic information system. Computer-generated maps of coal thickness, elevation, and quality also are being integrated into the geographic information system. The Ohio Division of Geological Survey maintains a series of 1:24,000-scale mylar maps showing the outlines of abandoned underground mines. During 1995, these maps were digitized by Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Real Estate and Land Management into a geographic information system. The construction of a database containing geologic and mine information which will be linked to these digitized out- lines is a priority of the Ohio Survey. The Ohio Division of Geological Survey`s Coal Availability cooperative program with the U.S. Geological Survey illustrates the utility of geographic information systems for performing complex analyses of the natural resources in specific areas. Regional databasesmore » (nine-quadrangle areas) were created to estimate the coal resources for eight 7.5-minute quadrangles. These databases will be the basis for additional regional coal resource estimations. Stratigraphic data computerized for Coal Availability investigations are also being used for the statewide bedrock geologic mapping program (STATEMAP).« less

This paper is focusing on developing a software package for area estimation techniques that used in remote sensing classifications and applying it. Soft classified image with a reference map are used. A comparative study has been done using the developed software. The results show that all areas which are estimated by based confusion matrix area estimators are more accurate and closer to the true areas than that by proportional counting estimator and the results show that; the developed software is an effective tool in supporting area estimation techniques.

Maps are useful for planning and navigation purposes in any country. Main aim of this work is the assessment of a methodology to achieve the best possible geometric accuracy in rectified imagery products obtained from World view2. The research includes, studying the effect of the number of Ground Control Points (GCPs) with various 2D polynomial rectification models on the accuracy geometric correction step. The resulting RMSE on the check points (CPs) will be evaluated. Results showed that using a second order polynomial for world view 2 image rectification with 33 well distributed GCPs resulted in a total RMSE 0.96 m for a number of 13 CPs which is less than the value of two pixel size of the used satellite image. Also, by using from 20 GCPs till 33, the accuracy of geometric correction for all polynomial orders has a small variation.

This technique has the advantage of saving the resources. If the site is photographed by a pair of overlapped photographs, and the image coordinates of points in the overlapped area are measured, then these coordinates can be used to calculate the ground coordinates. This paper investigates the use of cat's eye points as control points for rut depth measurements. Four highway sites were selected; each site was prepared and videotaped by stereo-pair cameras mounted on the back of vehicle travelling at speeds of 20, 40, 60, and 80 km/h. The study concluded that, the cat's eye points can be used as control points in close range photogrammetry.

While the egyption ministry of electricity is planning to establish a new electrical station at Nuweiba city in Egypt, to cover the increasing demand on electricity in this area. In this paper an integrated approach using satellite data and GIS techniques in conjunction with ARC / GIS program is used to study some issues related to the environment surrounding the project and get its impact. land use map with scale 1:100,000 for the main geo-environmental features and landforms of study area is produced by using ArcMap program. The produced map taks consideration of land use changes within 1984, 2000 and 2007. Nuweiba city, the Gulf of Aqaba has the potentials to be developed and need to support such developments by establishing the essential services projects such as the proposed electrical power station. Remote Sensing and GIS are the best tools of acquiring and analysis the basic information particularly on the environmental applications.
