The professors were responsible for organizing the mathematics and physics departments, and for teaching Greek and Italian languages. History, geography and other human sciences were under the responsibility of invited French professors. German professors were also invited by the new University, and were directed to organize the natural sciences. The path of the Italian mission in Brazil involved different social agents, such as politicians, journalists, scientists, professors and ambassadors acting in a mobilization network, which encompassed different public and personal interests. The main focus of this paper is to discuss the diplomatic relationships between Italy and Brazil in this decade from a transnational perspective, while highlighting the recruitment process of professors between 1934 and 1939, and up to the end of the Italian mission in 1942 when Brazil joined the Axis powers in World War II.

In this paper, we describe his work in Brazil, taking as our main source his final report to Brazilian and Italian authorities, produced few days before his departure to Italy. We point out some elements of his experience, which involved the organisation of the Department of Mathematics but also debates about Brazilian secondary education and the dissemination of Italian culture abroad in times of fascism.

I will argue that some global features, like lack of opposition between synthetic and analytic geometry, were present in the very first volumes of Klein’s encyclopedia, thus foreshadowing similar changes later made in the Jahrbuch. The regular participation of young mathematicians as coauthors allowed for the inclusion of innovative subjects in the encyclopedia. In addition, changes were made in the structure of this work along its 30 years of continuous publication. Finally, I included some information as to the reception and obsolescence of Klein’s publishing project.

present in the very first volumes of Klein’s encyclopedia, thus foreshadowing similar changes later made in the Jahrbuch. The regular participation of young mathematicians as coauthors allowed for the inclusion of innovative subjects in the encyclopedia. In addition, changes were made in the structure of this work along its 30 years of continuous publication. Finally, I included some information as to the reception and obsolescence of Klein’s publishing project.
no período.
