This IoT-based real time monitoring system can enable predictive maintenance to reduce the risk of electrical station malfunctions due to unfavorable environmental conditions. The combination of humidity and dust can lead to unplanned electrical discharges along the isolators inside a low or medium voltage electric table. If no predictive measures are taken, the situation may deteriorate and lead to significant damage inside and outside the switchgear cell. Thus, the mentioned situation can lead to unprogrammed maintenance interventions that can conduct to the change of the entire affected switchgear cell. Using a low-cost and efficient system, the climate conditions inside and outside the switchgear is monitored and transmitted remotely to a monitoring center. From the results obtained using a 365-day time interval...

It's an active research topic, being used in many research laboratories because of its potential of development. The main contribution of this paper is the development of an adaptive MIMO (Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output) system for VLC using frequency diversity. In this way, a VLC system can use more than one transmitting-receiving frequency, increasing in this way the data rate and the amount of information transmitted. The system is used for ITS (Intelligent Transportation System), where the car headlights can communicate with other LED (Light Emitting Diode) light sources across the road, increasing in this way the road safety. In the last part of the research is related a new approach for a hybrid communication system, integrating VLC with LoRa technology.

The growth of information technologies, together with the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT), exponentially amplified the connectivity capabilities of devices. Up to this moment, the Long Range (LoRa) communication technology has been regarded as the perfect candidate, created to solve the issues of the IoT concept, such as scalability and the possibility of integrating a large number of sensors. The goal of this paper is to present an analysis of the communication collisions that occur through the evaluation of performance level in various scenarios for the LoRa technology. The first part addresses an empirical evaluation and the second part presents the development and validation of a LoRa traffic generator. The findings suggest that even if the packet payload increases, the communication resistance to inter...

This paper presents and describes the concept, theory of operation, and practical results of a Telecare-ECG (Electrocardiogram) Monitoring device, designed for the remote monitoring of out-of-hospital cardiac patients. ECG monitoring using the Telecare-ECG Monitor system ensures a better quality of life for patients and greater possibilities for the real-time monitoring and signaling of sporadic cardiac events, by recording instantaneous cardiac arrhythmias captured during certain activities or in the daily environment of the patient; furthermore, hospital resources are less impacted by this device than other devices. In accordance with the novelty and contribution of this paper to the field of ECG investigations, the results obtained in the analysis, testing, and validation of the Telecare-ECG Monitor system refer to the optimizat...

The simple design that doesn't imply using shorting pins, flexibility and small size (25mm × 50mm × 0.5mm) are a few of the advantages given by this design. The proposed antenna is simulated and the results obtained are compared with measurements performed with Agilent FieldFox N9912A VNA. At ETSI frequency band, the reading distance is up to 2.7m, which shows that the tag achieves good size/performance ratio for flexible metal mountable UHF RFID tags. The gain of the antenna is only −16.25dB, but in order to reach the mentioned reading distance is used an RFID chip having a wake-up power of −20.5dBm. The proposed tag can be easily mounted on metallic objects having various sizes and shapes.

One important aspect given by this design is using a simplistic structure that can be adjusted for different type of IC chip impedances that exists on the market. The antenna is simulated and measured and the obtained results reveals that the tag can be compared with other prototypes, achieving good performance when is attached to a metallic surface. Using an 8dBi antenna gain for the reader and an output power of 30dBm, is obtained a maximum reading distance of 4.8m when is attached to a metallic surface and 3.1m in free space.

When a mismatch occurs in the antenna circuit, the power transferred from the RFID reader to its antenna is reflected, causing drastically decreasing of the tags reading distance. In this paper are analyzed some matching impedance circuits for an HF RFID reader antenna and are proposed few methods to achieve the desired impedance. The obtained results confirm that when a standard RFID reader antenna is used and the impedance isn't matched, the maximum reading distance decreases up to 60% towards when is well matched.

Many systems are used in harsh environments and the signal transmitted can be drastically affected by these environments. HF RFID systems are widespread nowadays, in many domains, but the metallic environments are an impediment to the extension of these systems in different applications. In this paper is presented a solution in optimizing the power transferred through the RFID reader antenna in the identification area where tags are found. This solution involves using an automatic matching unit (AMU) circuit that can match the impedance of the reader antenna at 50Ω, even if the metallic environments located nearby are constantly changing. Using the proposed solution and only 1cm between the reader antenna and a metallic plane the reading distance is increased up to 75% from the reference distance (reading distance when no perturbing environment is used around). The fast tuning process can identify the tags even if they are attached by moving objects.

These environments produce a detuning on the antenna, which as a side effect produce a drastic decrease in reading distance. In this paper, the authors show that it's possible to make a radical improvement on HF RFID systems performances by retuning the reader antenna to its system working frequency. In this way it's shown that HF RFID systems can work well in the proximity of metallic environments with the small price in the decreasing of the reading distance. Comparative test results are presented in this paper for the HF RFID system in the close proximity of metallic environments and in its absences. The most important parameters for this system that are evaluated are resonance frequency and reading distance.

These influences produce shifting of the resonance frequency, causing performances degradation for the entire RFID system. Based on the behavior analysis of an HF RFID antenna circuit in the proximity of metallic environments, in this paper are proposed two tuning methods using a simplistic approach and some mathematical determinations. These solutions can be taken into account when it’s necessary to implement a HF RFID system that can offer good performances even if the metallic environments in the proximity of the antenna are constantly changing.
