Through it, the individual acquires new skills and knowledge, devises solutions to problems and increases his or her imagination. Creative intelligence can be expressed and enhanced through creative writing, i.e. through writing novels, short stories, poems and other textual genres. Writers, using language, seek the most appropriate words to express their thoughts and describe all the images in their mind, while experimenting with forms and structures in order to find innovative ways to reach their readers.

The present research study reports the results of a 25-week school-based research/interventional ... more The present research study reports the results of a 25-week school-based research/interventional creative writing program aimed at enhancing the metacognitive skills of students in the last two grades of primary school. The Experimental Group (implemented the program) was composed of 382 students, while the Control Group (implemented the curriculum) consisted of 191 students. An impromptu questionnaire of 7 statements with a high Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient (α = 0.933) was used, which was filled in by the teachers of both groups, one for each student, before and after the intervention. The results showed that the Experimental Group substantially improved its metacognition ability compared to the Control Group.

Οι οριζόντιες/μαλακές δεξιότητες είναι ένα σύνολο ικανοτήτων ή ταλέντων που μπορεί να φέρει το άτ... more Οι οριζόντιες/μαλακές δεξιότητες είναι ένα σύνολο ικανοτήτων ή ταλέντων που μπορεί να φέρει το άτομο και διαπερνούν επαγγελματικούς τομείς και πτυχές της ζωής του. Πρόκειται, δηλαδή, για διαπροσωπικές ή ανθρώπινες δεξιότητες που ενισχύουν τις αλληλεπιδράσεις σε προσωπικό, κοινωνικό κι επαγγελματικό επίπεδο και μπορούν να αναπτυχθούν/διδαχτούν στην αίθουσα των εκπαιδευτικών ιδρυμάτων, λαμβάνοντας υπόψη το μαθησιακό στυλ των εκπαιδευόμενων, τις συνθήκες και τις στρατηγικές μάθησης. Από την άλλη κι έχοντας ως δεδομένο ότι ο τρόπος που χρησιμοποιούμε τη γλώσσα εκφράζει το ποιοι είμαστε και το πώς αντιμετωπίζουμε τον κόσμο, το εργαστήρι δημιουργικής γραφής δημιουργεί ένα πλαίσιο μάθησης κοινωνικής διαπραγμάτευσης και συνεργασίας. Η θετική επίδραση του εργαστηρίου δημιουργικής γραφής στην ενίσχυση των μαλακών/οριζόντιων δεξιοτήτων αποτυπώνεται μέσω ενός διαδικτυακού ερωτηματολογίου αυτο‐αξιολόγησης, το οποίο συμπλήρωσαν οι φοιτητές του Παιδαγωγικού Τμήματος Προσχολικής Εκπαίδευσης του Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλίας. Τα αποτελέσματά του, τα όποια έδειξαν θετική συσχέτιση ανάμεσα στη δημιουργική γραφή και στην ενίσχυση των μαλακών δεξιοτήτων, παρουσιάζονται και αναλύονται στο παρόν άρθρο.

As children's conflict management skills are not always well developed, consequences can be negative and sometimes disastrous. Therefore, conflict management becomes imperative, not only for the smooth conduct of classes, but also for ensuring the physical and mental integrity of students. Creative reading and writing activities based on literary passages or even entire literary books are an effective educational tool for cultivating and strengthening the skills that students need in order to manage and constructively resolve various conflicts within the school context. This paper briefly presents a teaching scenario for conflict management using creative reading and writing activities based on a literary extract from the novel 'Animal Farm' by G. Orwell.

Έχοντας τον ρόλο των δημιουργικών υποκειμένων, οι μαθητές/τριες μπορούν να επιφέρουν αλλαγές σε παγιωμένους τρόπους μελέτης κειμένων, όπως είναι αυτοί που προτείνονται από τα διδακτικά εγχειρίδια. Η δημιουργικότητα αυτή εκφράζεται μέσα από επιλογές που αφορούν τα κείμενα που μπορούν να αξιοποιηθούν ως διδακτικό υλικό, προκειμένου οι μαθητές/τριες να υιοθετούν συγκεκριμένες στάσεις απέναντι στη γνώση, να ασκούν κριτική και να αντιστέκονται σε επιβαλλόμενα νοήματα. Το εικονογραφημένο παιδικό βιβλίο μέσα από τη δυναμική σύζευξη κειμένου και εικόνας δίνει τη δυνατότητα στους/στις μικρούς/ές αναγνώστες/στριες να προσεγγίσουν τη σχολική γνώση με τρόπο ευφάνταστο, παιγνιώδη και κυρίως ελκυστικό. Σχεδόν πάντα, τα περικειμενικά στοιχεία αποτελούν κριτήρια επιλογής του βιβλίου προς ανάγνωση, δίνοντας συνοπτικά πληροφορίες για την τοποθεσία, τους ήρωες και την πλοκή της ιστορίας. Στο εικονογραφημένο παιδικό βιβλίο, όπου η διήγηση της ιστορίας επιτυγχάνεται μέσω του λεκτικού και του οπτικού κώδικα, το εξώφυλλο, ο τίτλος, τα εσώφυλλα και τα υπόλοιπα περικειμενικά στοιχεία οδηγούν κατευθείαν στην αφήγηση και προσδιορίζουν το είδος της. Είναι, λοιπόν, ζητούμενο στο πλαίσιο φιλαναγνωστικών δραστηριοτήτων οι μικροί μαθητές να γνωρίσουν τα στοιχεία του περικειμένου ενός βιβλίου και να κατανοήσουν τη σημασία και τη λειτουργία τους. It is now widely accepted that exposing students to a variety of cultural stimuli causes them to ... more It is now widely accepted that exposing students to a variety of cultural stimuli causes them to become culturally intelligent and enhances their creativity. Intercultural literature allows students to become acquainted with other cultures, opening them up to new experiences and possibilities. In addition, since there is interplay between literary reading and creative writing, students as co-creators of text and meaning form their own views and enhance their creativity. In this learning context, the production of useful ideas and mainly the development of knowledge, skills and mentalities that enhance the learning process are facilitated. The program "Social Learning Skills and Creative Writing" by the Department of Balkan, Slavic and Oriental Studies of the University of Macedonia was implemented in the fifth and sixth grades of elementary schools in Thessaloniki, Greece, during the school year 2018-2019, having as a basis literary texts from Eastern and Southeastern European countries. Results showed an improvement in the social learning skills of the 382 students who participated in the program and this article presents the results of its positive evaluation by the 25 teachers who implemented it.
Literature can be used in education as basis for creative writing activities not only in traditio... more Literature can be used in education as basis for creative writing activities not only in traditional classroom learning but also in distance learning. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a four-month online creative writing program on the utilization of literary texts in elementary school through collaborative activities. The research sample consisted of 15 students of the 5th grade of elementary school. Evaluation of program activities was performed by completing a structured improvised questionnaire on the asynchronous education platform "e-class" of the Panhellenic School Network, where students were asked to fill in fields regarding (a) literary excerpts, (b) creative writing activities, and (c) online groups. Based on the results, students responded in a positive manner to the use of literature in the context of online collaborative writing groups. The majority of students expressed their satisfaction both with regard to the creative writing activities, having literary excerpts as a stimulus, but also with regard to the effectiveness of online groups. In conclusion, it seems that literature can be used creatively through playful group creative writing activities and distance learning.

Empathy, which refers to the ability to recognize another person"s emotional state is one of the basic skills of the 21st century, which helps all students grow up to become active and critically aware citizens. The research/intervention program "Creative Writing and Social Learning Skills", implemented by students of the 5th and 6th grade of elementary schools in Thessaloniki, Greece, explores the enhancement of empathy, through the use of creative writing as an educational tool. Activities used were based on literary texts from Balkan countries and countries of Eastern and Southeastern Europe. The research sample consisted of 573 students, who were divided into the Intervention Group, that implemented the program, and the Control Group, that attended its regular curriculum. The analysis of the level of skills in children, and especially the level of empathy, which is of concern to us in the present study, was carried out using a structured improvised questionnaire, the alpha Cronbach coefficients where of range at very high levels. Study results showed that the Intervention Group exhibited statistically greater improvement in the assessment of empathy compared to the Control Group.
