This study investigated real data from the oil processing facility and analysed the simulation model for the entire crude oil processing unit based on the process system engineering aspect using Aspen HYSYS. The study mainly emphasises the process optimisation in processing the hydrocarbon for the maximum yield of the product with less energy consumption. The investigation also includes a thorough economic analysis of the processing facility. The datasets for oil properties are obtained from a modern petroleum refinery. The investigation comprises of varying transient conditions, such as well shutdowns using three oil reservoirs (low, intermediate, and heavy oil). The impact of various conditions, including process heating, well shutdown, oil combinations, presence of water on the production, is analysed. The results indicate that t...

Many empirical and analytical solutions have been developed to anticipate pressure loss for non-Newtonian fluids in concentric and eccentric pipes. Numerous attempts have been made to extend these models to forecast pressure loss in the annulus. However, there remains a void in the experimental and theoretical studies to establish a model capable of estimating it with higher accuracy and lower computation. Rheology of fluid and geometry of system cumulatively dominate the pressure gradient in an annulus. In the present research, the prediction for Herschel–Bulkley fluids is analyzed by Bayesian Neural Network (BNN), random forest (RF), artificial neural network (ANN), and support vector machines (SVM) for pressure loss in the concentric and eccentric annulus. This study emphasizes on the performance evaluation o...

Thus, a precise estimation of differential pressure is required to evade any unforeseen drilling difficulties. The existing predictive models are based on narrow-slot approximation methods and consider the effect of drilling string axial movement on downhole pressure surges. However, it ignores the impact on the boundaries of the annular fluid velocity zone by the tripping velocity. In this research, a simplified model is developed using the flow velocity profile generated in the annulus by the tripping operation and the concentric annular Couette fluid flow phenomena for power-law fluid. A comparative study is performed with the existing analytical models and the experimental data to validate the developed model. The obtained results are convincingly in good agreement with the analytical and experimental data. A parametric study is perform...

A numerical investigation on the transient free convection flow of the multi-phase nanofluid past... more A numerical investigation on the transient free convection flow of the multi-phase nanofluid past a vertical cylinder, which has a power-law variation surface temperature along with the height is presented. The problem has typical engineering applications involving cooling of vertical cylindrical rods in mechanical/manufacturing systems, cooling of nuclear reactors and the design of other advanced cooling technologies. Buongiorno's model is applied in this research, which incorporates thermophoresis and Brownian diffusion effects of nanoparticles. The zero-volume flux condition is implemented for nanoparticle concentration at the boundary to obtain realistic results. A robust second-order accurate finite-difference scheme of Crank-Nicolson type is applied to tackle the system of coupled non-linear partial differential equations numerically. The impacts of time, variable surface temperature power-law exponent, Brownian and thermophoresis parameters are investigated on nanofluid f...

Nanofluids can be used in a variety of industrial applications because of improved thermophysical properties. Stability of nanofluids is the only quandary factor which decreases the efficiency of such smart fluids in engineering applications. The information and studies on interaction of nanomaterials with the liquid have significant importance toward their usage in industrial applications. Agglomeration among particles is a common issue due to interactive forces, which effects the dispersion, rheology, and overall performance of nanosuspensions. Characterization of nanofluids plays an important role to evaluate the stability of nanofluids. The effect of agglomeration on the stability of nanofluids can be reduced by introducing different mechanical and chemical techniques to prolong dispersion of suspended particles in liquids. Complete understanding on the stability of nanofluids can lead to the preparation of different combinations of stable nanofluids with enhanced properties for variety of applications.
