Emotional intelligence has been a well-researched topic for the past few decades. The role of emo... more Emotional intelligence has been a well-researched topic for the past few decades. The role of emotional intelligence in reading comprehension performance has been explored extensively. The basic objective of this literature review paper is to draw attention to studies conducted in the last fifteen years regarding the role of emotional intelligence in reading comprehension achievement. Previous reviews have focused on the relationships between emotional intelligence and a diverse range of academic achievements. However, there is a dearth of reviews on the relationship between emotional intelligence and reading performance. A total of fourteen studies were reviewed based on two key aspects, firstly, 'variables' and secondly, 'research design'. Variables included context of studies, gender, and ethnicity, whereas, research design included research approaches and quasi-experimental studies. This study also provides recommendations for future research regarding emotional intelligence and reading comprehension performance. It is the aim that potential researchers would benefit from this paper's analysis of'' the current research trends regarding reading emotional intelligence.

أصبح مفهوم الذكاء العاطفي محل اهتمام الكثير من الباحثين وعلماء اللغة والنفس وذلك لاتصال نظرياته بالكثير من الظواهر اللغوية الشائكة .ومن أجل هذا فقد نال هذا المفهوم الكثير من العناية والبحث على مدار العقود القليلة الماضية لاسيما علاقته بمهارات وقدرة الفهم القرائي للغة الانجليزية . يهدف هذا البحث بشكل رئيس ي لمراجعة الدراسات السابقة خلال السنوات الخمس عشرة الأخيرة التي تدرس العلاقة الذكاء العاطفي والفهم القرائي. ركزت تلك الدراسات السابقة على الذكاء العاطفي وعلاقته بمجموعة متنوعة من المهارات التعليمية والأكاديمية .ومع ذلك ،لا تزا ل هنالك ندرة في المرجعيات حول العلاقة بين الذكاء العاطفي والفهم القرائي . على ً في البحث الحالي تمت مراجعة وسرد أربعة عشر دراسة بناء ً اً , أولا :المتغيرات ، أساسين رئيسيين وثاني :منهجية البحث .تضمنت المتغيرات : في حين ، سياق الدراسات والجنس والعرق تضمنت منهجية ة البحث علي هيكلة البحث والدراسات شبه التجريبي .ث ا توصيات للبح وث ً تقدم هذه الدراسة أيض المستقبلية فيما يتعلق بالذكاء العاطفي والفهم القرائي . والهدف هو أن يستفيد الباحثون من تحليل هذه الورقة في اتجاهات البحث الحالية بما يخص الفهم القرائي والذكاء العاطفي.

This study was conducted to find the association between pronunciation self-efficacy sources and ... more This study was conducted to find the association between pronunciation self-efficacy sources and pronunciation self-efficacy beliefs. It was quantitative in nature using correlational research design. A sample of 155 Malaysian ESL university students was selected from two Malaysian universities by employing proportionate stratified random sampling. Two questionnaires were used to collect the data related to pronunciation self-efficacy sources and self-efficacy beliefs. In order to analyze the collected data, the correlational analysis was carried out with a statistical software named Smart PLS 3.0. Findings indicated that all the self-efficacy sources were significantly and positively correlated with pronunciation self-efficacy beliefs, except physiological state which was significantly but negatively correlated with pronunciation self-efficacy beliefs. Based on the outcomes of this study, implications for ESL instructors and educational policymakers were presented.

The study aimed at identifying the association between Bandura's four hypothesized self-efficacy ... more The study aimed at identifying the association between Bandura's four hypothesized self-efficacy sources and reading comprehension by employing reading self-efficacy beliefs as a mediating variable. A correlational research design was used. A total of 351 Saudi EFL learners were selected from eight public universities of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by employing proportionate stratified random sampling. Two questionnaires including 'questionnaire for sources of reading self-efficacy', and 'reading self-efficacy beliefs questionnaire', and an IELTS reading comprehension test were used to collect the data. Path analysis by AMOS 23 was utilised in order to test the hypotheses. Findings provided support for the proposed conceptual framework, disclosing that all the four self-efficacy sources were significantly associated with reading self-efficacy beliefs. Also, reading self-efficacy beliefs were significantly associated with reading comprehension. Lastly, reading self-efficacy beliefs mediated the association between self-efficacy sources and reading comprehension. This study offered several theoretical and practical implications for EFL learners, instructors, and educational policymakers on the need of inculcating self-efficacy beliefs among learners to facilitate them in English reading comprehension.

The study aimed at identifying the association between Goleman's emotional intelligence and secon... more The study aimed at identifying the association between Goleman's emotional intelligence and second language speaking anxiety by employing oral communication skills as the mediating variable. A correlational research design was used. A total of 209 first and second-year Malaysian undergraduate ESL students were selected from one public university in Malaysia. The study employed the proportionate stratified random sampling. In order to collect data, three questionnaires including 'Emotional Competence Inventory (ECI)', 'Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS)', and 'Oral Communication Skills Scale' were used. Testing the hypotheses required correlational analysis done via Smart PLS 3.0. Results provided support for the proposed conceptual framework, disclosing that emotional intelligence was significantly associated with oral communication skills. Also, oral communication skills were significantly associated with second language speaking anxiety. Lastly, oral communication skills mediated the association between emotional intelligence and second language speaking anxiety. The current study offered ESL students, educator and policymakers several theoretical and practical implications.

Recently, much attention has been paid to enhancing English speaking competence, particularly amo... more Recently, much attention has been paid to enhancing English speaking competence, particularly among preteens in EFL classes. Preteens tend to be more anxious when it comes to speaking especially in a foreign language. Consequently, they experience high levels of social phobia which leads to poor communication. Many studies have utilised different approaches and clinical treatments in order to address social anxiety. However, a handful of studies have conducted empirical studies in the academic setting. This study investigates the effect of teaching Emotional Intelligence (EI) skills on English speaking scores among Algerian preteen students at the Batouta primary school. A quasi-experimental design was employed. A sample of 102 level-six primary school students suffering from social interaction was split into control and experimental groups. The latter underwent 20 EI skills training sessions, while the former did not receive any treatment. Both groups were chosen randomly in order to elevate the representativeness and generalisation of the findings. The Social Phobia and Anxiety Inventory (SPAI) was used to assess the level of social anxiety. Both groups went through an oral test designed by the school teachers in order to obtain the participants' speaking scores. Data were analysed via SPSS v.23. Results show that the training of EI skills relatively help students suffering from social anxiety increase their oral competence. To conclude, EFL instructors may include EI training sessions in their programmes as they foster English speaking performances among their students.

Among academia, literature and fiction Bechar captures the readers in her novels written in Arabic and a few were translated to English. This Short stories collection is sought to take handsomely the reader from all over the world to the tumultuous climax where love is seldom powerful and often fragile. The HER Pain reflects pride and disguise, loyalty and treason that were all marinated in love. I would like to thank Saida, my dad (Ahmed), my mom (Nadia), my sister (Kawter), my love (Nesrine) and all those who supported me all the way to finish translating these stories.
