Przypadek białoruski w symbiozie z kolonializmem wytworzył do pewnego stopnia przewidywalny, a z drugiej dosyć unikatowy scenariusz strategii postkolonialnego przetrwania. Drugi aspekt to nawiązanie do materii teoretycznej historiografii wraz z praktycznym użyciem teorii w ramach historiograficznych zwrotów postkolonialnej Białorusi (tudzież Europy Wschodniej), dotyczących tekstów z obszaru mediewistyki lub tekstach o średniowieczu. Zasady istniejącego dyskursu analizy i interpretacji żywiołu postsowieckiej Europy Wschodniej, a wraz z tym Białorusi, mogą zdecydować o krytycznym podejściu do zaistniałych w ramach opracowania tez. Wręcz kluczowe w odczytywaniu zaproponowanych tu hipotez będą wyzwania wywołane miejscem i czasem usprawiedliwiającym w pewnym stopniu potrzebę napisania podobnego opracowania.

Throughout the protests, media space was not only been freed from regime control but also significantly influenced independent media. As a result of this evolution, so-called citizen media with their own language and unique narrative strategies emerged from an oppressed, subjugated and intimidated journalism. The new language is informative and brief (telegram language), capacious, sharp, but not vulgar, skillfully operating with facts and half-facts. In many ways, it was the language of these new forms of media that triggered a reaction of civic resistance and radical counteraction by the authorities. The article focuses not only on the use of language tools for presenting information, but also on how and why the language of Telegram channels became dominant in the public opinion of Belarusian society after the elections on August 9, 2020.

Monuments will get removed and street names changed,” reads a comment on the website of Russia’s state-owned information agency Ria Novosti. It was placed under an article describing the removal of the Catharine the Great monument in Odesa. In a nutshell, these two sentences present the discourse that has developed in Eastern Europe around the topic of decolonisation. In theory, decolonisation, or a decolonisation shift, refers to a process of denaturalisation of existing (i.e. colonial) order of knowledge. As such, this process eventually leads to a change in the way a society thinks about itself, the world, the past and the future.

The anti-Soviet elites were expected to present a concrete socio-economic programme for the country. This was despite the fact that the group was deprived of earlier political or administrative experience. Its political capital was only limited to a vision of nation-building.

Unconventional actions by the public have revealed a hidden picture of the mentality in Belarus, which has become a huge step towards a post-national future.

Postcolonial historiography in Belarus. A theoretical outline.
The Anglo-American theory of postcolonialism, which since the early 1980s has continued, although to a lesser degree than before, to be critical discourse widely used in the
humanities, concentrates mainly on South Asia, the Muslim world, and Central and East Africa. Until recently, Central and Eastern Europe have not been considered a historical region which is affected by colonialism and, therefore, it has not been taken into account when creating the theoretical bases of postcolonialism, or in historical research which
makes use of this method. In 1991, for the first time in its history, Belarus, similarly to
other East European countries, gained the right to construct its own discourse, free frthe coloniser’s intentions, regarding its historical and cultural identity, and thus breaking
away from the imposed category of “otherness” as well as the coloniser’s knowledge about subordinated individuals. The paper focuses on postcolonial Belarusian historiography. It
shows various ways of approaching the past as well as the development of the two main trends in interpreting Belarusian national history and how they relate to the (post)colonial discourse of the former coloniser.

These two dimensions of time are in a relation of constant dependence and influence. On one side stands the past
as the source of historical tradition that influences the course of the present and on the other side it is the present that (re)shapes and restructures the past for contemporary needs and purposes. This article studies the myth as
one of the main aspects that forms the contemporary image of the historical
past. In the wider historiographical context, this phenomenon has been regularly
investigated in the last few decades. The novum which this article brings to historical science would be the detection and description of the (mythological) roots of the contemporary visions of Belarusian past.
