Evaluation of the success of TODs is key for continuing the planning efforts. A frequently applied framework for characterizing TODs draws on Bertolini’s Node-Place (N-P) model, enriched through application in various contexts. We offer here an extension to the N-P model, using a case study in a low-density city, Perth, Western Australia. A typology of railway stations is developed using 43 indicators and then linear models are applied to ascertain the association between patronage and station precinct features. The results show that various types of measures are required to increase public transport ridership for the four clusters that emerged from the analysis. Density alone does not lead to increased use of public transport; it must be associated with ci...

While non-trial research exercises such as public confidence surveys, traffic simulations or policy reviews remain important, they fail to include the ‘on the ground’ learning. This paper presents user experience data collected from passengers whilst they were travelling on-board an AV shuttle travelling at low speeds on the UWA campus. The user responses indicated that approximately half the users thought the shuttle to novel but not a practical form of transport, leaving half that did indicate a willingness to adopt the service as part of their day to day travel.

It is less common for stated preference to be integrated into a citywide household travel survey, but that is what is being considered by the WA Department of Transport for the next Perth and Regions Travel Survey (PARTS-2016). This paper contains a number of detailed recommendations for integrating a stated preference component with a household travel survey.

It combines databases of customers who agree to receive marketing messages with low-cost, customized e-mails that attempt to slice through advertising clutter, attract increased customer support, and change behavior. This applied research examined implementing permission marketing, relevant literature, and permission marketing's effectiveness influencing consumer interest and behavior. A case study tested the propositions resulting from the literature review and evaluated responses to a permission marketing campaign that used traditional and new media. This study found that relevance—personalization, brand equity, and previous relationships—influenced response rates. This article adds to the growing body of research on permission marketing's role in marketing theory, as well as its applied effectiveness in the marketplace.
