Azmat Rasul
Azmat Rasul is a faculty member in the Department of Communication Arts at Valdosta State University, Valdosta, GA. He earned his PhD from the School of Communication at Florida State University (FSU) in 2015. Before joining FSU as a Fulbright PhD student, he had worked as a Public Relations Manager for six years and an Assistant Professor in the University of the Punjab for five years. He Has been selected to receive several academic awards including Top Student Paper Awards (Mass Communication Division, ICA, 2015 and Mass Communication Division, NCA, 2016), the FSU Academic Leadership Award in 2015, the Mathew Grindy Prize in 2014, and the College of Communication and Information Leadership Award in 2013. He has a dynamic research agenda focusing on the interplay between politics and entertainment, social media, international and political public relations, entertainment public relations, political economy of media, media portrayal of gender and its effects, and framing of political and cultural issues in international media. With more than 50 peer-reviewed conference presentations, 15 published articles in refereed journals, seven invited book chapters, two books, and eleven published articles in the South Asian journals, Rasul has an active research agenda that centers on multipronged theoretical and methodological approaches. For the last 15 years, he is teaching courses in research methods, communication theory, political communication, international and intercultural communication, communication for change, and public relations / advertising.
