Broadly speaking, my research interests center on issues related to gender, feminism, social movements, mass media, race/ethnicity, and law. I am currently working on my dissertation which examines the ways in which anti-violence-against-women organizations (AVAWOs) influence mass media discourse pertaining to domestic violence and sexual assault as a means of achieving cultural change. Drawing on mass media coverage of ten AVAWOs over a five-year time period spanning from 2011-2015, I investigate the social movement organizational and broader environmental factors that shape mass media coverage of AVAWOs. Incorporating three types of mass media (i.e., broadcast, print, and digital media), I construct a dataset that measures the presence or absence, quantity, and quality of mass media coverage that each AVAWO receives. Using regression analyses, I assess the the movement organizational and broader environmental factors that shape the quantity and quality of media coverage, as well as how movement organizational and broader environmental factors interact to develop a better understanding of how social movements influence mass media as a means to achieve cultural change.edit
