e... more Ovaj rad proučava temu isplativosti ulaganja u tri najraširenije tehnologije obnovljivih izvora energije: vjetroelektrane, male hidroelektrane i fotonaponske elektrane. Rad započinje opisom obnovljivih izvora i zatim obrađuje tehničko-tržišne aspekte navedenih tehnologija.
This paper examines the topic of investments in the three most widely used technologies of renewable energy sources: wind, small hydro and photo-voltaic power plants. The paper starts with a description of renewable energy sources and then processes the technical and commercial aspects of the above technologies. After the introduction, the processes specific to investing in renewable energy sources are described, as well as the legislative framework that covers them. Finally, the paper designs and analyses three potential projects in Croatia. In preparing this study various methods were used that will be outlined in the paper itself, while the largest contribution in the research phase came from professional literature and case studies of various projects implemented around the world. This paper gives an insight into the specifics of investing in renewable energy sources, positive effects and obstacles that investors may encounter. Results inspire optimism and show unquestionable effectiveness on a theoretical level, but the final image is only possible if the project is indeed realized in practice, which means that risk is an important factor when deciding on energy projects. The author came to the conclusion that, according to financial efficiency indicators, small hydro plants are the most cost effective technology of renewable energy sources. Also, it is the author’s opinion that photo-voltaic technology has the leading potential and possible application in the future. In Croatia, photo-voltaic power plant projects would be easier to perform than other projects, and this paper concludes that the key for that advantage lies in scalability, ease of construction and overall potential, especially in the southern and coastal parts of Croatia. Wind power technology, according to the author, is not inferior but because of its more complicated nature and less scalability, it does not have an equal economic potential for wide application in Croatia. The total technical and economic potential of renewable energy sources in Croatia would be a useful research project whose results would contribute significantly to the energy sector. Keywords: renewable energy sources, profitability, energy potential, capacity factor, feed-in tariff.
