Mastodon是一隻自由开源个去中心化个社交網絡服務軟件。佢有得搭Twitter像个微博特點，但弗過是用交關獨立个服務器組成工个，佢拉个規則、服務條款、隱私政策、审核系统侪是兩樣个。[1][2][3]
Mastodon服務器个每個用戶全好搭其他服務器丄个人直接互動。用戶好揀佢拉自家歡喜个服務器，但是好搭整隻分佈式社交網絡通訊。Mastodon用个是ActivityPub協議，箇記就組成工聯邦宇宙（英语：Fediverse）个一部分，好搭Lemmy、Misskey咾啥个平臺互通。
