In this paper, the idea of a Prepaid energy meter using an AT89S52 microcontroller has been introduced. This concept provides a cost efficient manner of electricity billing. The present energy billing systems are discrete, inaccurate, costly and slow. They are also time and labour consuming. The major drawback of traditional billing system is power and energy theft. This drawback is reduced by using a prepaid energy meter which is based on the concept “Pay first and then use it”. Prepaid energy meter also reduces the error made by humans while taking readings to a large extent and there is no need to take reading in it.

A theme of Electricity asking system known as sensible postpaid meter will help to improve income management system for utilization of energy and it reduces the exploitation of man power for taking meter readings and asking for shopper living in isolated areas. Problem of payment collection by each individual can be solved. It reduces the problem related to billing, consumer living in all over India specially for isolated area. Tampering in energy meter & theft of electricity will be avoided by using sensors, saving papers by using GSM technology & prepaid IOT technology tags. when the customer insert a wise card into the cardboard reader that’s connected in postpaid energy meter with tariff indicator kit. The card reader will read the stored information and delete the knowledge from the EEPROM IC(smart card) using the MC program in order that the open-end credit can’t be reused by others. When the amount is over, the relays can mechanically closedown the complete system. In this pa...
In this paper, the idea of a Prepaid energy meter using an AT89S52 microcontroller has been introduced. The present energy billing systems are discrete, inaccurate, costly and slow. They are also time and labour consuming. The major drawback of traditional billing system is power and energy theft. This drawback is reduced by using a prepaid energy meter which is based on the concept "Pay first and then use it". In this system the user has to purchase an EEPROM based recharge card and it should be inserted in the slot provided on prepaid energy meter kit. After inserting the recharge card into the system, the user should press RECHARGE key to start recharge. Then the system will be loaded with specific units as per the recharge card value. A 16X2 LCD is provided to read units available. Here the system is connected with loads. If the load increases in the system, current also increases and is calculated by energy meter which counts the analog data and converts into digital ...
Now a day's, electricity billing system are inaccurate, costly and slow because it depends on human which prepare electricity bill. To overcome this problem smart card based prepaid energy meter is designed. Using prepaid smart card energy meter, we can reduce human error while taking meter reading because there is no need to take reading in it. Microcontroller is used in this Energy meter .So, design cost is low. Energy meter is recharged using RFID smart card and energy unit is recharged in meter. According to the power consumption, the energy unit will be reduced. Recharge units and consumed units are displayed on to LCD display. When it reaches to zero, main supply is automatically off using relay.
With the current trend of Information Technology in our present time, the lot in our daily life is developing accordingly, and energy meters are no exception to this phenomenon. An intelligent GSM based prepaid energy meter is developed to be able to accurately calculate the amount of consumed energy by a certain building, display the remaining energy available from a pre-purchase of electricity, by which is done by the means of recharge through SMS service. The energy meter provide the utility company with regular status of the meter on a predefined interval, and also display a real time on the user's account update, which contributes to the retrieval of the balance of the meter, as well as keeping log of the consumed energy and remaining electricity of each user by the means of SMS. It also provide utility company the ability to send updated consumption rates according to the Time of Day Tariff (TDF) to the meter on pre-defined intervals The methodology used is embedded system with control system. The prepaid energy meter concept is shown by Proteus 8 software simulation. The major components are AVR microcontroller, Voltage and Current transformer, LCD, Relay and a load. Electricity has become one of the basic requirements for people and widely used for domestic, industrial and agricultural purposes. The software for this system was implemented with the use of embedded system code written onto the microcontroller. And the designed and implementation is an efficient way to collect billings for electricity consumptions, which further facilitate the recharge process of meters currently being used to the generalization and the acceptability in other to revolutionaries the entire metering system used in the 21 st century.

In this paper smart energy meter with GSM model for prepaid and postpaid system is proposed. Due to this system the user has ability to select prepaid or postpaid mode as per his/her requirement. In prepaid mode balance is reduced as per energy is consumed. When the balance is low user gets a "Balance is low" message. If balance reaches to zero then with the help of relay power automatically gets cut off. If the account is recharged then the user gets uninterrupted power supply. In postpaid system with the help of GSM module MSEB gets the message of how much units a particular user is used and according to that data MSEB sends bill by post.

This paper presents a prepaid energy meter to facilitate energy consumption measurement and to know consumer's maximum demand. The energy billing system used nowadays are labour and time consuming. Errors are inevitable at every stage of billing, some are human errors while noting down the meter readings, errors while processing the paid bills and the due bills. There is no proper way to know the consumer's maximum demand, usage details. This paper demonstrates the use of prepaid energy meter system. If we use this system it will be beneficial for the consumer to manage power. It is easy to operate and cost effective. Another advantage of the prepaid system is that the human errors in taking meter readings and processing bills can be reduced to a large extent.

Today the metering instrument technology grown up significantly, such that the Consumed energy can be calculated mathematically displayed, data can be stored, data can be transmitted etc. Presently the micro-controllers are playing major role in metering instrument technology. The present project work is designed to collect the consumed energy data of a particular energy consumer through wireless communication system (without going to consumer house); the system can be called as Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) system. The automatic meter reading system is intended to remotely collect the meter readings of a locality using a communication system, without persons physically going and reading the meters visually. The application of the e-metering system is extended to streamline power distribution with online monitoring of power quality, real time theft detection and automatic billing. The power utility can recharge the prepaid card remotely through mobile communication based on customer...
In India electricity meters have mainly been electromechanical in nature but are gradually being replaced by more sophisticated and accurate digital and electronic meters. A high percentage of electricity revenue is lost due to power theft, incorrect meter reading and billing, and reluctance of consumers towards paying electricity bills on time. This paper proposes a new methodology to implement a controller based smart prepaid energy meter which can also control electricity thefts. The energy meter makes use of the global system for mobile communication [GSM] network to incorporate the facility of prepaid metering system and remote load control. A prepaid energy meter is installed in every consumer home which makes use of an ARM 7[LPC 2148] microcontroller to calculate the energy consumed and a server unit is maintained at the service provider side. Both the units are well equipped with GSM modem. LCD display is used to display the amount of energy consumed. The user can recharge the meter as per his requirements by sending an SMS to the server. The user needs to make an initial recharge to deal with the issues of unpaid bills and human error in billing which eventually ensures justified revenue collection. Also different aspects of electricity theft can be dealt using the proposed algorithms.
