This paper focuses on a unique Nortycken-type bronze battle-axe recently discovered as part of the Late Bronze Age hoard (Br D – Ha A1) at the site Olešná in Southern Bohemia. The battle-axe probably originates from the Eastern Baltic or Northern Poland, where similar artifacts are primarily dated to Period I-III of the Bronze Age. The possible role of this artifact in Southern Bohemia remains in question. The Nortycken-type battle-axe was likely imported over a considerable distance, but there is no evidence of a connection to local Bronze Age elites. The archaeological record does not indicate the presence of such elites in the region of Southern Bohemia (Czech Republic).

This double session presents key results of the FWF project "Carolingian Culture in Septimania and Catalonia" (CCSC), which has been led by Matthias M. Tischler (Barcelona) and Walter Pohl (Vienna) since 2020. CCSC focuses on manuscripts with Carolingian textual culture in Septimania and Catalonia since the ninth century, many of which have been identified for the first time, examined in more detail, and placed into the larger European panorama of manuscripts, book cultures, and histories. The two sessions develop two different perspectives on the comprehensive Carolingian cultural transfer to this Mediterranean border society: The first session focuses on the question of which Carolingian authors and works were brought to the region and who was responsible for their dissemination (paper 1), which autochthonous manuscripts from the ninth century can be proven and which cultural network of individuals and communities can be reconstructed from them (paper 2), and how this cultural transfer had a particular impact on the field of historiography (paper 3). The second session then takes a look at the audiences addressed through this cultural transfer by showing how the introduced new liturgy and exegesis confronted Jews, pagans, and Christian heretics with the orthodox Catholic position (paper 4) and how it created a distinguished new religious identity in this world zone (papers 5 and 6). All papers show how one can reconstruct with the aid of manuscripts the human dimension of (inter)religious interactions and the de/construction of identities and thus the networks of cultures and religions in a central Euro-Mediterranean region between the ninth and twelfth centuries.

Positive self talk is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) coping skill that has been around for quite some time. Positive self talk is known to be effective for many types of mental health conditions. This activity is focused on using positive self talk to cope with anxiety. However, there is a slightly different spin on the concept. For some people, being positive does not come naturally. This can be due to a variety of issues possibly stemming from childhood or it can be a personality trait. Whatever the reason, it can be easier to start with “Realistic Self Talk” as an easier to identify with method for starting a dialogue with ourself to overcome challenges. This worksheet takes you through the process of learning to practice realistic self talk to cope with anxiety and other stressful life challenges. Learning to have an encouraging but realistic dialogue with ourselves can be a life changing way to cope when things seem overwhelming or difficult to face
