In 2016-2017, at Combaillaux (Hérault, France), the preventive excavation carried out by the Inrap allowed the study of an exceptional set of three slag pit furnace with multiple use related to the direct iron ore reduction in 700 m2 open area. All three are based on the same model: an oblong access pit leading to a circular excavated heating chamber with a natural ventilation system activated by 5 vents arranged around the bottom of the chimney. Around the furnace, some twenty structures reflect the organization of work within the workshop. The workshop is close to several contemporary protohistoric settlements: 17 km north-east of Sextantio (Castelnau-le-Lez), 15 km north of the Gardies oppidum and 27 km from the Lattara harbour. The site would have been frequented from the beginning of the 5th century BC to the end of the 3rd century BC, but the metallurgical activity would have functioned for less than one century and would have produced between 15 and 20 tons of iron according to estimates. Today, Combaillaux Les Érables site is the oldest evidence of an iron production workshop in southern Gaul. Chemical analyses of reduction slags have revealed a specific chemical signature that can now be tracked.

Music For Healthfullness’ CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS, 2024
Background: Yoga recognizes the healing power of sound, including the Om or Pranava sound, which has inherent properties. Examining the effects of Om chanting on Heart Rate Variability, a measure of autonomic nervous system activity, provides insights into how this yogic practice may modulate the autonomic balance and promote physiological regulation. Aim/Objective: The objective is to investigate the effect of Pranava Om Chanting, combined with Savitri and Vibhaga Pranayama, on Heart Rate Variability. Materials and Methods: The study utilized HRV techniques to record the data . Participant was first monitored in a supine position for 5 minutes to collect baseline data. Subsequently, Savitri Pranayama was performed, followed by Vibhaga Pranayama. After this, the participant engaged in 27 rounds of Pranava Om Chanting and immediate post - chanting data was recorded. Results: The case study reveals a pattern in the participant's autonomic responses during various activities. The mean RR recorded during the Savitri Pranayama and Vibhaga Pranayama periods indicated a predominance of parasympathetic nervous system activity, associated with relaxation and reduced physiological arousal. However, during the Vibhaga Pranayama, there was a slight increase in sympathetic nervous system activity. During Pranava Om Chanting, the parasympathetic nervous system was enhanced, providing a soothing and calming effect. Heart rate showed slight parasympathetic dominance during Savitri Pranayama and immediately after Pranava Om Chanting. Different breathing techniques have varying effects on cardiovascular stress, and the integrated yogic practice may have a complex impact on autonomic balance. The LF/HF ratio showed an interesting pattern. The LF/HF ratio for the pre - intervention period was 7.31, indicating a predominance of sympathetic nervous system activity. This suggests the participant was in a state of higher physiological arousal and stress prior to the intervention. In contrast, the LF/HF ratio for the post - intervention period was 2.661, which suggests a shift towards parasympathetic dominance. This indicates to a more relaxed and recuperative state after the integrated yogic practice, with increased parasympathetic tone.
Concrete international, 2018
Embedded steel plates with headed studs (embeds) serve as connections to structural steel framing, façade and curtain wall systems, elevator rails, steel or precast stairs, mechanical-electrical-plumbing components, and miscellaneous additional items. Proper anchorage and connection to concrete must be given a high priority by the entire design and construction team. As members of the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC), we met in May 2018 to share experiences on the topic of embeds. This article presents our recommendations for best practices for design, fabrication, coordination, and construction of embedded steel plates in cast-in-place concrete. All recommendations are directed at constructability (cost, jobsite safety, and schedule issues), not the structural capacity of the plate or anchors.

CATHERINE PAGE LAGARDE: Pilgrimage in the Modern World: Collected Stories (Under the direction of Dr. Matthew Bondurant) This thesis seeks to creatively explore various aspects of the modern pilgrimage in a collection of two nonfictional personal essays and one fictional short story, all of which are thematically linked. It is a study of faith, doubt, journey, and their intersection and manifestation in the modern world. It is inspired both by personal experiences as well as the works of various authors, most notably Carlos Eire, Walter Macken, Dodie Smith, Sharon Creech, Sigrid Undset, St. Thomas More, and St. Thomas Aquinas. This work seeks to give modern context and understanding to traditional understandings of “pilgrimage,” as described in The Catechism of the Catholic Church. Far from changing or turning away from this traditional understanding of the word, this work serves instead to uphold it within a modern context.
