Fine-scale sampling uncovers the complexity of migrations in 5th-6th century Pannonia Highlights d Novel genomic data from 53 individuals from 5th-8th century Europe were generated d The sites exhibit significant genetic diversity comparable to large swaths of Europe d Associations between genomic ancestry and burial customs vary in the analyzed sites d Spatial modeling analyses indicate gene flow from northern Europe into Pannonia

This study compared the effects of unilateral and bilateral plyometric training on single-and double-leg jumping performance , maximal strength, and rate of force development (RFD). Fifteen moderately trained subjects were randomly assigned to either a unilateral (U, n = 7) or bilateral group (B, n = 8). Both groups performed maximal effort plyometric leg exercises 2 times per week for 6 weeks. The B group performed all exercises with both legs, whereas the U group performed half the repetitions with each leg, so that total exercise volume was the same. Jumping performance was assessed by countermovement jumps (CMJs) and drop jumps (DJs), whereas maximal isometric leg press strength and RFD were measured before and after training for each leg separately and both legs together. Countermovement jump improvement with both legs was not significantly different between U (12.1 6 7.2%) and B (11.0 6 5.5%) groups. However, the sum of right-and left-leg CMJ only improved in the U group (19.0 6 7.1%, p , 0.001) and was unchanged in the B group (3.4 6 8.4%, p = 0.80). Maximal isometric leg press force with both legs was increased similarly between groups (B: 20.1 6 6.5%, U: 19.9 6 6.2%). However, the sum of right-and left-leg maximal force increased more in U compared with B group (23.8 6 9.1% vs. 11.9 6 6.2%, p = 0.009, respectively). Similarly, the sum of right-and left-leg RFD 0-50 and RFD 0-100 were improved only in the U group (34-36%, p , 0.01). Unilateral plyometric training was more effective at increasing both single-and double-leg jumping performance, isometric leg press maximal force, and RFD when compared with bilateral training.

Teacher professional development (TPL), supervised by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, is vital for improving educational outcomes in Tanzania. This analysis scrutinizes the present state of TPL in Tanzania, emphasizing the responsibilities of diverse stakeholders and investigating various paradigms and models of professional development. Although conventional methods like workshops and seminars continue to be widely used, an increasing number of individuals acknowledge the importance of shifting to more efficient frameworks, specifically community of practice-based approaches. The significance of harmonizing TPL with the practical requirements of classroom instructors and cultivating ongoing cooperation and support among relevant parties is underscored in the review. The community of practice model is a potentially effective strategy that allows educators to participate in continuous, situationally appropriate learning experiences while receiving assistance and input from colleagues and authorities. The transition from training-oriented to practice-oriented learning underscores educators' critical role in determining their professional growth. Moreover, by capitalizing on technological infrastructure and communication networks, one can access prospects for autonomous professional growth, irrespective of geographical constraints. Nonetheless, for the successful implementation of TPL programs, effective collaboration among stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, school administrations, and community organizations, is essential. To ensure coherence and efficacy, explicit standards and guidelines are required, in addition to ongoing monitoring and evaluation to determine program impact and pinpoint areas that need enhancement. This critique proposes that TPL in Tanzania be re-evaluated and restructured to accommodate the changing requirements of educators and students. Tanzania can enhance educational outcomes and student success by fostering a culture of ongoing professional development and learning among its teaching staff by adopting community-driven, practice-based methodologies and providing sufficient resources and support.
One of the biggest mistakes that could be made in either the substance use or mental health fields is to completely separate these two issues. Fortunately, there has been significant research and advancement with regard to the need to integrate the two fields of substance use and mental health. The interplay between mental health and substance use is such a critical part of the overall change process.

This country report focuses on developments that took place during the period of 2011-2017 in the field of migration in Turkey. Traditionally a country of emigration, starting from the early 1990s, it has also become an important country of immigration, asylum and transit. Most recently, the increasing pressure of the refugee challenge, particularly given the high number of arrivals from Syria, has put the country once again under international spotlights. This report provides relevant migration statistics that are available as open source data. It briefly reviews the socio-economic, political and cultural characteristic of the country as well as its brief migration history. The report also delves into a detailed analysis of the constitutional, legal and institutional framework of Turkey’s national migration management system, which has gone through significant transition in the last few years. The report points out that due to Turkey’s geographical limitation to the 1951 Geneva Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees (1951 Convention), and its associated 1967 Protocol; Turkey does not grant refugee status to people fleeing from conflicts and persecution in non-European countries. But it does provide ‘conditional refugee status’ along with ‘refugee’ and ‘subsidiary’ protection. The report reveals a key duality regarding European and non-European asylum seekers to be an important characteristic of Turkey’s asylum system. The first group can obtain ‘refugee’ status’; while the second group can only obtain ‘conditional refugee status’. However, regardless of their nationality, due to the Syrian mass migration, Syrian refugees1 are given another international protection status, which is called ‘temporary protection’. The report concludes by highlighting that part of Turkey’s recent migration policy efforts are tied to encouragement coming from the EU for Turkey to improve conditions regarding access to the asylum process and status determination as well as enhancement of its facilities forasylum-seekers’ protection. Although these developments bring Turkey closer to satisfying the EU demands on migration and asylum policy, Turkey is still expected to abolish the geographical limitation of the 1951 Convention to create a full-fledged asylum system and to solve remaining implementation problems. Ensuring equal and fair access to asylum procedures and facilitating the full access of asylum-seekers to legal aid remain priorities still to be achieved.
