Crisis in Cleaning, 2005

The poor perception people have of those who “do the cleaning” is aptly illustrated by Dr Craig A Jackson, Senior Lecturer in Health Psychology at the School of Health and Policy Studies, University of Central England, Birmingham, who states: "In the occupational health department of a university that I occasionally visit, staff had their photographs taken and placed on a board for visitors to see. Upon seeing the photographs for the first time, I remarked to a colleague: 'Even Irene the cleaner is up there.'" Of course, as soon as he said it, he realised it was a stupid thing to say. After all, why shouldn't she be? Besides, Irene was not so much "up there" with the rest of them, but actually at the bottom of the pyramid of photographs, on a row all by herself. This example speaks the obvious all too clearly, and poses some interesting questions. Why do we place cleaning personnel at the lower end of organisational hierarchies? Why do we view such workers as appendages, and blanket them with the term "support staff"? I suspect it is because it is inherent in human nature to never want to be at the bottom of the pile and, if there are cleaners, domestics and other staff below us ordinary workers, then hey, why should we question the system? If we do not begin to address the question soon, there may be a large-scale problem awaiting us all.

This study was concerned with executive housekeepers in a lodging setting. It used a self-completed questionnaire containing both choice and open-ended items to solicit the opinions of executive housekeepers and the delivery of quality service in the housekeeping department. The results indicated the executive housekeepers believed the department members delivered a high level of service, but more could be done.

The implementation of this community service is to foster Homestay managers in the tourist village of Kampung Purba Dayu, Karanganyar Regency in growing and developing homestays by providing knowledge and skills to all related people in order to create professional homestay human resources. This housekeeping development method is with theory and practice that is adapted to the conditions of the homestay that already exists in the homestay. The results obtained from the coaching participants are getting a job description and standard operating procedures as work guidelines, having skills in the field of housekeeping and being able to apply everything they get in carrying out homestay operations.

Todo o grande acúmulo de informações impulsionadas pela década do cérebro (1991-1999), permaneceram inacessíveis a Piaget, morto em 1980. Mesmo assim, é impressionante a convergência entre suas proposições e esses conhecimentos em neurociências.Entre os diferentes modelos neuropsicológicos, o modelo de funções executivas de Fuster oferece uma descrição perfeitamente compatível com as proposições piagetianas. Neste ensaio teórico, apontamos para essas convergências entre o modelo piagetiano de desenvolvimento cognitivo e o modelo de Fuster. Quanto a este último, usamos como fonte o livro (não traduzido para o Português) The Prefrontal Cortex (2008), um trabalho de síntese, em que o resultado de anos de pesquisa é apresentado em termos de um modelo coerente e empiricamente fundamentado.
