Cornelius L. f. Gal. Bocchus".

Ilinca Zarifopol-Johnston: În Căutarea Lui Cioran... Regăsindu-Se Pe Sine2021 •
In addition to those Romanian writers who succeeded in gaining recognition both in a foreign country and in their country of birth, many others have unfairly remained unknown to the Romanian readers. Ilinca Zarifopol-Johnston is a writer, translator and editor of two early Romanian texts of the philosophical essayist E. M. Cioran, On the Heights of Despair and Tears and Saints, and a professor in the Department of Comparative Literature at Indiana University, Bloomington. She is the younger daughter of the Romanian writer Dinu Zarifopol, who himself did not receive popular or critical recognition for his work in Romania. The current article, which provides some general information about Ilinca Zarifopol-Johnston’s life and academic work, is an attempt to arouse the reader’s interest in this Romanian author’s literary works, especially in her book entitled Searching for Cioran.

O carte manuscrisă pierdută. Geografia lumii copiată de Sava Popovici din Rășinari (1785) (Revista de istorie şi teorie literară, Bucureşti, XVII, nr. 1-4, 2023, pp. 369-375) [= Indo-historico-geographica 1. Addendum 2]2023 •
A lost manuscript book. The world geography copied by Sava Popovici from Rășinari (1785): The paper discusses a manuscript book – known in a copy made by the priest Sava Popovici (1735-1808) from Rășinari in the year 1785 –, which was described in 1912 and 1915. Its trace was completely lost afterwards and it attracted attention only once, in a marginal way. Our research has led to the identification of the original – a Russian introductory book for the students of the Saint Petersburg academic gymnasium – and to a plausible proposal for its anonymous author: the Prussian astronomer Christian Nicolaus von Winsheim (1694-1751), who was teaching after the famous schoolbook of Johann Hübner. We are also proposing the most probable author of the translation: the schoolmaster Radu Duma (174?-1791) from Brașov. Its final sections discuss the image of India as described in its chapter on Asia and, respectively, its probable use as a textbook in a number of schools from the South-Eastern part of Transylvania: Brașov, Rășinari, and Sibiu.

The discussion on the principles and rules to understand the text of prophetic traditions can never be dispensed with by a student of Islamic studies. Hence, we can observe that there are scholars who have developed principles and rules to understand the text of prophetic traditions as a discipline. One of the principles used to understand the text of prophetic traditions is the principle of understanding traditions through historical and temporal contextualization. There is no doubt that the principle of historical and temporal contextualization has a significant contribution to ensure a correct understanding of the prophetic traditions. The failure to refer to, and rely on the principle of historical and temporal contextualization would lead to an inaccurate and incomplete understanding of the prophetic traditions such as in situations when there are seemingly contradictions among several narrations. Therefore, this research aims at highlighting the importance of this principle an...
