Greek and Ethiopic versions of 1 Enoch 5:8 preserve a different text at the end of the passage. This note aims to demonstrate the superiority of the Ethiopic text of 1 En. 5:8 over the version preserved in Codex Panapolitanus by arguing that the Greek reading must be treated as a scribal addition influenced by Gnostic terminology.

Assembles citations of and references to writings attributed to the biblical antediluvian forefather Enoch in post-biblical Jewish, Christian, and Muslim literary sources (ranging in age from roughly the third century BCE up through the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries CE) into one convenient collection, and compares, classifies, and analyzes these references and citations in order to develop a clearer picture of the scope and range of the corpus of works attributed to Enoch and his subsequent inter-religious avatars.

“Private Part” is a draft of a forthcoming publication. It analyzes a papyrus fragment of 1 Enoch 8–9, forged in modern times, and tries to trace the odyssey of this fragment (and the scholarly discussion around it) since 2004, within the context of its many modern “cousins.”

In this monograph, Bruk studies the reception and appropriation of 1 Enoch in the early church and the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahǝdo Church (EOTC) canon. First Enoch was originally written in Aramaic and later translated into Ge‘ez (or “Ethiopic”) from the Greek translation between the fourth and sixth centuries CE. The full text of 1 Enoch is preserved only in Ge‘ez, thus making it important for the EOTC
