Recent Developments and Achievements in Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering

Hungarians who live in Central Europe today are one of the westernmost Uralic speakers. Despite of the proposed Volga-Ural/West Siberian roots of the Hungarian language, the present-day Hungarian gene pool is highly similar to that of the surrounding Indo-European speaking populations. However, a limited portion of specific Y-chromosomal lineages from haplogroup N, sometimes associated with the spread of Uralic languages, link modern Hungarians with populations living close to the Ural Mountain range on the border of Europe and Asia. Here we investigate the paternal genetic connection between these spatially separated populations. We reconstruct the phylogeny of N3a4-Z1936 clade by using 33 high-coverage Y-chromosomal sequences and estimate the coalescent times of its sub-clades. We genotype close to 5000 samples from 46 Eurasian populations to show the presence of N3a4-B539 lineages among Hungarians and in the populations from Ural Mountain region, including Ob-Ugric-speakers from West Siberia who are geographically distant but linguistically closest to Hungarians. This sub-clade splits from its sister-branch N3a4-B535, frequent today among Northeast European Uralic speakers, 4000-5000 ya, which is in the time-frame of the proposed divergence of Ugric languages.

Nghiên cứu phân tích số liệu của 23 ngân hàng thương mại cổ phần Việt Nam từ năm 2009 – 2017, để kiểm định tác động của các yếu tố ảnh hưởng đến tỷ lệ nợ xấu của các ngân hàng thương mại cổ phần. Sử dụng phương pháp hồi quy tác động cố định (FE) và tác động ngẫu nhiên (RE). Nghiên cứu thấy rằng tỷ lệ nợ xấu của các ngân hàng ở năm trước càng cao sẽ làm cho tỷ lệ nợ xấu của ngân hàng hiện tại càng gia tăng. Đồng thời, ngân hàng có chi phí trích lập dự phòng càng cao thì nợ xấu càng cao. Từ kết quả nghiên cứu, tác giả đề xuất một số ý kiến nhằm cải thiện tỷ lệ nợ xấu của các ngân hàng thương mại cổ phần.

Renaissance philosopher, mathematician, and theologian Nicholas of Cusa (1401-1464) said that there is no proportion between the finite mind and the infinite. He is fond of saying reason cannot fully comprehend the infinite. That our best hope for attaining a vision and understanding of infinite things is by mathematics and by the use of contemplating symbols, which help us grasp "the absolute infinite". By the late 19th century, there is a decisive intervention in mathematics and its philosophy: the philosophical mathematician Georg Cantor (1845-1918) says that between the realm of the finite and the absolute infinite, there is an intermediate realm partaking in properties in a certain sense of both the finite and the infinite: the transfinite realm. Like the finite, the transfinite realm is a realm of mathematical objects, numbers, and knowledge. Like the absolute infinite, the transfinite is a form of infinity insofar as transfinite sets and numbers transcend any finite number. Echoing Cusanus and neo-Platonism, Cantor says that the transfinite sequence of all ordinals is a symbol of the absolutely infinite, that is, God. Moreover, Cantor envisioned his transfinite set theory (Mengenlehre) as providing the analytical methods and techniques necessary for a comprehensive, organic, nonreductive description of nature, a Naturphilosophie. Thus Cantor's novel mathematics is presented as part of a long tradition, to which Cusanus, Bruno, Spinoza, Leibniz and others belong, in which the infinity and infinite character of organic life forms is appreciated, and is in some sense a mirror or symbol of the divine. The doctrine of symbolism and the different commitments to the laws of logic present in both the work of Cusanus and Cantor enables these thinkers to articulate a transcendental apophatic approach to divinity.

Ecovillages are citizen-organised residential communities that strive for a more sustainable way of life based on a culture of cooperation and sharing, as deemed necessary to support a shift to a post carbon world (Dawson, 2006; Lockyer & Veteto, 2013; Korten, 2006). While much can potentially be learned from the study of these experimental sustainable communities, perhaps their greatest contribution is to help us understand how to transition from individualism and competition in order to live ‘smaller, slower and closer (Litfin, 2014)’. Drawing on a social theory of practice (Wenger, 1998) and concept of communities of practice (Lave & Wenger, 1991; Wenger, 1998), this paper considers how one ecovillage is learning the social competencies necessary to live and work well “in community”, and in doing so, it co- constructs and sustains a cooperative culture.

n pochi chilometri quadrati, in pochi anni, addirittura in pochi mesi, si dipana una storia che vede tra i protagonisti alcuni forestieri, pedine in un gioco che dalla dimensione europea si riverbera nel nord della penisola italiana. Una spia, un ingegnere e una donna di potere si muovono in questo scenario tra geopolitica, territori contesi, potere ambito. Tre stranieri che agiscono in un territorio molto complicato, ognuno con le proprie competenze, in alcuni casi inconsuete: un frate che spia i lavori di potenziamento di mura e bastioni, una donna francese che regna sul ducato sabaudo e che sovrintende alle fortificazioni. L’ingegnere è in missione per Malta e deve incontrare i più importanti esperti militari al servizio di Francia e Spagna per chiedere pareri su alcuni progetti necessari a fronteggiare un temuto attacco. In alcuni casi si incontrano, in altri si «sfiorano»: l’ingegnere incontra la duchessa Cristina; la spia porta da Roma a Torino i messaggi di un cardinale troppo vicino ai francesi. Tutti e tre si muovono in una rete che unisce fazioni e interessi molto diversi. Tutti e tre si occupano di città, di fortificazioni: descrivono, spiano, decidono, progettano. Tutti e tre hanno lasciato testimonianze, una copiosa documentazione che oggi permette di studiare e approfondire la storia della città nel nord della penisola italiana nel XVII secolo.
