We present a machine learning framework aimed at increasing performance seizure detection systems. Despite the diversity of ML-based available, the methodology to select an optimal classifier or ensemble model for seizure research is not commonly known. Our study is aimed at bridging this gap by showing use of a statistically guided machine learning framework that has delivered reliable on-field performance. We empirically examined performances of 11 different classification algorithms, with additional 13 variants, executing 300 machine learning models against 6 fixed preictal windows (ranging from 5 minutes to 60 minutes) and 3 different sets of features as part of our study. Using a base of 55 subjects, of which we used 43 subjects to train and validate multiple ensemble models and classifiers, we achieved upto 98.3% F1 score, with 94.8% chance level performance on our data, and a False Positive Rate (FPR) of 0.0156/hr. We applied the top ensembles and classifier variants on 12 co...

Perceptions of Giftedness and Classroom Practice with Gifted Children – an Exploratory Study of Primary School Teachers2021 •
The Decree-Law 54/2018 combined with Ordinance 223-A / 2018 - Article 33 regulates the inclusion of gifted students in Portuguese schools. This study aims to investigate primary school teachers` perceptions of giftedness and their experiences of working with gifted children in their regular classes. This is an exploratory study with 13 teachers and the data were collected through semi-structured interviews. Our participants tended to represent giftedness with an emphasis on the intellectual traits of gifted learners and to adjust their pedagogical approach accordingly. Their assessment practices focused essentially on product-oriented approaches instead of process-oriented approaches. Our findings suggest that there is still a long way to go, especially in terms of formal teacher training, to tailor teaching to the needs and characteristics of gifted learners.

Abstract: The world we live nowadays is a fast growing up world, and this is all because the quickness in which information is transmitted. In the great-engineered world, media is always publishing technology developments all over the wo rld, a general interest for anyone. These new technologies are widely spread among the media. For those who get to know them and do not understand properly the right use of innovations, it all became useless. Students also feel those difficulties, or rather only lack of teaching to raise the ability to understand the enormous opportunity of extra-curriculum knowledge in these innovations. This work will present a methodology rather simple, but also efficient, aiming the integration of the engineer with the society, in an attempt to make science and technology application more accessible nowadays. Starting from an activity that makes use of news from media (internet, radio, TV, newspapers, magazines, etc.), we wish to prepare students for a critical ...

Heart rate variability, exercise capacity and levels of daily physical activity in children and adolescents with mild-to-moderate cystic fibrosisBackground: Autonomic nervous system balance is altered in cystic fibrosis (CF), although its influence on physical fitness has been poorly explored. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the association of heart rate variability (HRV) with exercise capacity and levels of daily physical activity in children and adolescents with mild-to-moderate CF. Methods: A cross-sectional study including individuals with CF aged 6–18 years, not under CFTR modulator therapy, was performed. Sociodemographic (age, sex) and clinical information (airway colonization, pancreatic insufficiency, and genotyping) were collected. In addition, exercise capacity (modified shuttle test — MST), lung function (spirometry), body composition (bioimpedance), levels of daily physical activity (5-day accelerometer), and HRV (both at rest and during the MST) were evaluated. Results: 30 individuals (20 females) aged [Formula: see text] years, mean FEV[Formula: see text]%, were included. A sympathovagal balance (LF/HF...
