Nothing is a concept difficult to interpretate and define. Its like the mythology figure of Proteus, who changes His form based on context and situation. In this analysis I will examine the nothing through the thinking of various logicians, philosophers and writers of the past. In particular I will focus on the ambiguous nature of the concept, in his being paradox and antiphrastic. Interesting in this exam is the oscillation between consider on one hand the nothing like a noun and on the other hand the nothing like a quantification (remembering Polifemo's mistake). I will specifically consider the debate between Carnap that attacks Heidegger's sentence "The nothing nothings", keeping in mind the recent research made by a famous italian philosopher and professor currently active on the analytical scene. Afterwards I will prove that the Heidegger’s sentence is formally and logically well formed but it has no denotation. This conclusion reflects the consideration and assumption according to which the nothing it doesn't have a ontologic being but is only a quantified expression. Lastly I will show that the nothing represents a concept that need a cooperation between different fields of philosophy. This permits a re-joining of the analytic philosophy with the continental philosophy, forgetting the historical fracture.
