Books: "Another Brick in the Barricade: The Gezi resistance and its aftermath"
2013 •
Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party, AKP, has been using women’s body in implementing social and economic policies since they came into power in 2002. Male rooted political power within the party has been creating regulations concerning sex and reproduction. This paper aims to explain women’s involvement in the Gezi Park as a reaction to political intervention with and endogenous control over women’s bodies.
http://www.lwbooks.co.uk/journals/soundings/issue/57.html One of the most important uprisings in Turkish memory broke out by the end of spring 2013. Although the citizens of the world were used to unrests and occupations of public spaces in the name of reclaiming certain political issues, such a popular grassroots unrest was an unexpected happening for both the citizens and the government of Turkey. This article looks at a year of unrest and its expressions in terms of grassroots mobilisation and interaction with formal political processes. Following an overview of the unrest that is name as the Gezi Resistance the article explores new political formations such as the park forums, participatory forms of electoral monitoring and the attempts to bring the spirit of horizontal activism into scene of the mainstream Turkish politics. The article considers the occupation of the Park in central Istanbul as an opportunity for a radical democratic emancipation. As a public space that is accessible by various individuals the park turned into a space of appearance. And what the activists named 'the Gezi spirit' refers to the process of encountering and acknowledging the others to negotiate political positions. Despite the risks of being hijacked by mainstream political discourses the Gezi resistance bears the potential towards a radical democratic trajectory.

Gezi Insurgency as 'Counter-Conduct'2022 •
This article defines the Gezi insurgency as a case of 'counter-conduct' with a heterotopia in a Foucauldian sense and compares it with similar movements to underline its peculiarity. It argues that Gezi cannot be defined as an 'anti-austerity' or 'anti-dictatorship' movement. Rather, it was a struggle against the neoliberal-cum-neoconservative conduct under AKP rule and its leadership taking the form of a pseudo-presidential regime. Gezi not only was a search for a different conduct but also a possible self-conduct through self-invention in prefigurative experimentations with different ways of being and practicing direct democracy in the reclaimed public spaces that characterized the action process. What sustained this counteraction process was the spontaneous constitution or deployment of certain platforms like Blok and Çarşı which did not, in themselves, express or represent any given social or political organization nor a corresponding form of a generic identity. In the Gezi insurgency, actors tended to outflow their defining social categories and become a part of the series of performances in which a sense of self-transformation has been common.

The Gezi Uprising and Corporeal Politics: Towards the Reinvention of a Political Culture2016 •
This book is an academic exploration of the exploitation at work between 'First World' populations at the expense of those in 'Third World'. Instead of approaching this exploration through a lens of conspiratorial analysis, Dr. Kelly focuses his geopolitical inquiry through the mechanistic term of 'Biopolitics'. He specifically connects this framing phrase with the more familiar terminology of 'Imperialism'. ...
On the trail of recent social movements: The Gezi Park as a ring in the global chain
On the trail of recent social movements: The Gezi Park as a ring in the global chain2015 •
This thesis examines the central driver of recent mobilizations to be the need felt by society to seek a reinterpretation of democracy. This need for change is seen to emerge due to the damages caused to the social fabric by the impact of economic globalization. It is argued that every social movement has its own particular reasons. However, in the current globalization era, everything is connected to each other and drivers of recent social movements are dependent on the ‘legitimation crisis’ of the political economy. This aspect is focused through a case study on the Gezi Park movement as part of the recent wave of social movements. While investigating these aspects, it appears necessary to go beyond the new social movement theory in order to observe accurately this even newer wave of mobilizations. These issues must be addressed, and if they would be, it is argued that recent social movements can be the pioneers of an honorable social and political system in the future.
Communism: The Gezi Uprising ". For, the beginning I want to say that I use the phrase "Idea of Communism" not necessarily in a Badiouian manner, I use it literally as an idea of a world in which mankind lives freely and in peace with nature. I am going to talk about two different subjects one notional and one historical which I believe are interrelated. The first one, notional subject is the common. And the historical subject is, as my title suggests Gezi uprising. My aim is to consider these two subjects together and make a projection about the idea of the communism. I believe that thinking on what the common means and thinking on why and how the Gezi uprising happened together can bring us to an understanding towards the ideal-communist world. When we do a quick research on Gezi uprising we can easily see that there are a variety of clear causes of the event and we can also have an image of the protesters just by looking the pictures on the internet. But it remains as a mistery who these protesters really were and why did they take such an action by that time and place. And it still remains as a mistery especially what meaning this action does have unless we don't make the relation between the action and the notion "the common" visible. They were not just random numbers protesting random policies of AKP the ruling party in Turkey. The Gezi Uprising as a whole was a genuine class uprising in historical materialist sense and it showed everybody especialy to its oppositors that another way of living, another way of becoming subjects, in short another world is possible. It did manage that by protecting and also enlarging the common. And that's why I picked these two subjects up. Preparing to speak on the common and the Gezi uprising was harder than I thought because there ısn't an agreement among the socialist on the meaning of the common and the event is still very new. As a proud participant of the uprising and as a student of marxist political thought, I can say that as long as I could manage to reach a synthesis about the meaning of the common I think I got a better insight of Gezi Uprising and I am here to share my progress with you. I hope it will get your interest.
