ABSTRACT The evaluation of intelligent tutoring systems (ITSs) is an important though often neglected stage of ITS development. There are many evaluation methods available but literature does not provide clear guidelines for the selection of evaluation method (s) to be used in a particular context. This paper describes the evaluation study of DEPTHS, an intelligent tutoring system for learning software design patterns.

The Tutor gradually introduces student with the concept of design patterns and describes most frequently used classes of patterns. The issue imposed in course realization of this problem, the “Design Patterns” book [1] should support this course. The course for learning Design Patterns is divided into three main sections, creational patterns, structural patterns and behavioral patterns.

Intelligent Tutoring Systems are capable of becoming an alternative to expert human tutors, able to provide direct customized instruction and feedback to students. Although Intelligent Tutoring Systems could differ widely in their attached knowledge bases and user interfaces (including interaction mechanisms), their behaviors are quite similar; thus, it must be possible to establish a common software model for them. A common software model is a step forward to move these systems from proof-of-concepts and academic research tools to widely available tools in schools and homes. The work reported here addresses: (1) the use of Design Patterns to create an object-oriented software model for Intelligent Tutoring Systems; (2) the application of the model into a two-year development project; (3) the qualities achieved and trade-offs made. Besides that, this paper describes our experience using patterns, and the impact in facts such as creating a common language among stakeholders, supporting an incremental development and adjustment to a highly shifting developing team.

Evaluation methodologies for intelligent tutoring systems1993 •
Intelligent tutoring systems (ITS) in the domain of language learning are becoming very common. Software engineering best practices and frameworks should be used to ease the process of developing new intelligent tutoring systems. In this research, we show how a Pattern language for intelligent tutoring systems (PLITS) was used to develop modules of the Arabic Tutor. The Arabic tutor is a web-based ITS for teaching Arabic Grammar. We focus on how PLITS was used to develop both Tutor and interface modules of the Arabic Tutor.

Komunikasi memiliki peran yang sangat penting khususnya dalam konteks pendidikan. Lingkungan pendidikan yang efektif mampu memfasilitasi komunikasi yang baik antar berbagai stakeholder, seperti guru, siswa, dan orang tua. Dinamika komunikasi yang terjalin dalam lingkungan pendidikan dapat memengaruhi proses pembelajaran, keberhasilan akademis, dan pengembangan pribadi siswa. Komunikasi dalam pendidikan bukan hanya sebatas tentang penyampaian informasi, tetapi juga tentang pembentukan hubungan, pemecahan masalah, pengembangan keterampilan sosial, dan pembentukan identitas. Lingkungan pendidikan yang mendukung komunikasi yang efektif akan menciptakan suasana yang kondusif untuk pertumbuhan intelektual, emosional, dan sosial siswa. Namun, dalam era digital dan globalisasi saat ini, dinamika komunikasi dalam lingkungan pendidikan telah mengalami perubahan signifikan. Teknologi informasi dan komunikasi telah memengaruhi cara kita berkomunikasi dan berinteraksi, baik di dalam maupun di luar kelas. Hal ini menimbulkan tantangan baru dalam mengelola komunikasi pendidikan dan menuntut adanya pemahaman yang lebih mendalam tentang bagaimana lingkungan pendidikan dapat mempengaruhi komunikasi.
