Diversity is linked to two concepts of respect and acceptance and recognition of the existence of individual differences in a safe, positive and interactive environment. Each of the humanitarian groups has its own specificities and cultural characteristics such as language, customs, traditions, social and economic status. Whereas it is a source of human integration with each other and is linked to progress and development, and how it relates to the belief of community members to respect their cultural rights.
In general, culture is the system of values, beliefs, practices and traditions which structures and determines the behaviour of individuals as well as of groups of people. Culture helps people to live their lives with freedom and dignity. The culture of a nation, over time becomes heritage and may be seen as possessing a complex and heterogeneous culture, drawing upon different traditions. Thus it is common to see different societies to have different vision of a good life and moral values in their respective cultures. Cultural diversity is representing the distinct ways of life, beliefs and practices of various cultural communities. Moreover, diversity is the avoidance of monoculture for many people. This essay will try to discuss this conceptualisation of diversity with reference to other ways in which diversity may be conceptualised.
Cultural Diversity Samuel A. Obua, 2024
Culture can be referred to as the human pattern of activities in a social group and community that symbolizes structures important to activity, such as laws, social standards, customs, and traditions, which are natural exhibits of the element of culture. According to UNESCO, culture has four pillars (UNESCO,2017).

The term ‘culture’ is considered notoriously ambiguous, complex whole, encompassing almost everything (Sardar & Van Loon, 2004), of which has no operational definition, however most common meaning is the pattern of beliefs, values, habits, ideals, and preferences shared by both small and large groups of people. These cultural characteristics learned in early childhood are mostly unconscious and vital as they have more effect than later influences (Jones, 2006). Despite the challenge in defining the word, Sardar & Van Loon (2004) note cultural studies use a variety of disciplines such as Anthropology, Psychology, Linguistics, and Literary criticism, Art Theory, Musicology, Philosophy and Political Science.
