Did the New Deal make life better for Americans or did it prolong the economic crisis?
Was World War II really the only thing to get the United States out of financial depression?
President Franklin Delano Roosevelt had quite the task at hand to change around how the economy took a devastating low blow. During his first inaugural address, he had made some attempt to assess the big blow and said, “The withered leaves of industrial enterprise lie on every side; farmers find no markets for their produce; the savings of many years in thousands of families are gone. More important, a host of unemployed citizens face the grim problem of existence, and an equally great number toil with little return.” The beauty about FDR is that he is looked as a hero at the time when during his almost three terms that he had accomplished success with the economy getting to work and booming. My grandpa had grown up during this time and said it was tough to get through it even as a child. I mean, he still made the best of it and his family did what they did to put food on the table. For example, he couldn’t get new shoes when the shoes he had on had holes in them, because it was that bad on how families couldn’t spend money. Everyone had to watch on what they spent. The living circumstances were very unfortunate for those who had to live through it. I feel that when the New Deal was introduced and proposed that turned around the United States economy.
