COVIDWe know war destroys civilization and uproots the existence of mankind. A time was there when the whole planet was under the appalling shadow of atom bomb, but now it has become the ornaments of nation. Is it an adaptation? Well, we cannot come to the final conclusion. However, all that we can infer is that no dark phase lasts forever. The COVID-19 pandemic is undoubtedly an eclipse for all the nations of the world. With a death of around 573K people in a planet of 7 billion population, it is another war the nations are facing. It is no exaggeration to say that in this war, we still do not have any defense system that can destroy this micro species that took the lives of people worldwide. We are yet in an early stage regarding its origin, symptoms, and defense mechanisms. Surprisingly, the symptoms of the disease are exhibiting significant dynamicity. In this critical juncture, this book is an attempt to open the Pandora’s box and reveals the virus in terms of its origin, nature, transmission, and effects. The lockdown phase, an attempt to break the transmission chain, however, showed some positive signs in terms of air and water quality, which have been depicted in this book with ground zero data. The book would not have arrived at the final stage without the constant support and assistance of our near and dear ones both in personal and in professional front. Our family stood as a pillar of support during these difficult times helping us to write the manuscript. We hope that the book written in a very lucid language would be able to draw attention of the readers of all ranks of the society. Abhijit Mitra, Srijan Goswami, and Joystu Dutta

Management of COVID-19: Sri Lankan Indigenous Medicine PerspectivesThe Covid-19 pandemic caused by the deadly Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has led to millions of confirmed cases and deaths worldwide. The disease can affect other systems in addition to the respiratory system. The symptoms of Covid-19 vary from mild to severe symptoms such as headache, loss of smell and taste, nasal congestion, sore throat, cough, muscle aches, joint pain, fever, diarrhea, fatigue, thirst, and dyspnoea. In Sri Lanka, Covid-19 patients are being treated at allopathic hospitals, while other Ayurveda hospitals are using integrated Ayurveda and allopathic medicine. Recently, Covid-19 patients were treated in Ayurveda hospitals with integrated Ayurveda treatment with traditional medicine. The pathological process of this disease can be associated with flu-like illness (Abhishangaja Jvara, Aupasargika Roga). The nature of Covid-19 has been described in Ayurveda texts as Janapadodhwansa (epidemic or pandemic). According to Ayurveda, environmental pollution and sinful human behavior (Adharma) are the causes of the disease. Covid-19 can be effectively treated in an integrated approach to Ayurveda medicine and Sri Lankan Indigenous Medicine. Asymptomatic patients can be treated with health promotion; Dinacharya (mid-day routine), Sadvrutta (good behavior), Ritucharya (seasonal adaptations), and Rejuvenation treatment. Patients with symptoms can be treated with Langhana (fasting), Ama-pachana (which improves digestion), and Shamana drugs (decoctions, pills, etc.). Therefore, Covid-19 (Abhishangaja Jvara) is a disease that can be effectively controlled according to Ayurveda concepts (Ama, Agni, Tridosha, etc.), as well as Sri Lankan indigenous medicine.
