The legal framework in South Africa (SA) provides for strict requirements regarding prescriptions. However, pharmacists are still confronted daily with illegible handwritten scripts, increasing the risk of medication errors. E-prescribing is being implemented in SA to overcome these disadvantages. The general regulations made in terms of the Medicines and Related Substances Act as well as the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act must be read conjointly for the purposes of understanding the legal framework of electronic prescriptions in SA.
Pharmacy
Illegible prescriptions are an illegal, frequent, and longstanding problem for pharmacy personnel engaged in dispensing. These contribute to patient safety issues and negatively impact safe dispensing in pharmaceutical delivery. To date, little is documented on measures taken to assess the negative impact posed by illegible prescriptions on South African pharmacy dispensing personnel. Therefore, this pilot study was performed to evaluate the ability of pharmacy personnel to read and interpret illegible prescriptions correctly; and to report on their perceived challenges, views and concerns when presented with an illegible prescription to dispense. A cross-sectional, three-tiered self-administered survey was conducted among pharmacy personnel. A total of 885 measurements were recorded. The ability to read an illegible prescription is not an indicator of competency, as all (100%) participants (novice and experienced) made errors and experienced difficulty evaluating and deciphering th...
Infrastructures and Processes for E-Health Systems
Even today most medical prescriptions are typically handwritten or printed on paper and hand-delivered to pharmacists. Paper-based medical prescription is generating major concerns as the incidences of prescription errors have been increasing and causing minor to serious problems to patients, including deaths. Most of the problems of paper-based prescription can be avoided by electronic medical prescription, also variously known as electronic prescription, e-prescription, or electronic transmission of prescription. Though the basic concept of e-prescription is simple, e-prescription has not yet been widely adopted, despite advances in information and communication technologies – it is, in fact, just in early stages of adoption in a few countries only. To facilitate wider adoption of e-prescription, several technical and non-technical issues need to be addressed. This chapter presents an overview of electronic prescription. Beginning with an introduction to e-prescription, it examine...

The study examines the effect of electronic prescription on medication at Federal Medical Centre, Keffi. The study adopts survey and documentary research design. The primary data were generated through the instrument of questionnaires while secondary materials were sourced from the past studies. The population of the study is the patients of the Federal Medical Centre Keffi who benefit from these services as well as Doctors and pharmacists who provide these services. The technique of data analysis was regression analysis. The hypothesis was tested at 5% level of significance. The findings from the analysis revealed that there is significance relationship between e-prescription that allows easy transfers of patient's records among the Physicians which enhanced efficiency in Patients treatment at FMC Keffi. The study further reveals that, electronic prescription service has reduced the number of patients who died as result of wrong prescription of drugs usually associated with manual prescription drugs in FMC Keffi, the study recommends that, The management of the Federal Medical Centre Keffi should ensure that, there should be security of Patient's data in all patient treatment to reduced error rates in term of further treatment.
Health is the main capital that enables everyone to live a productive life socially and economically. Therefore, every effort made by the government and society to maintain and improve health is very important. This is inseparable from the obligation of each individual to maintain and improve the health status of individuals, families, and communities.\ The World Health Organization (WHO) describes health as a state in which a person is physically, mentally, and socially healthy, shows no symptoms of illness, and has a strong resistance to daily stress. In addition, Law No. 36 of 2009 on Health is defined as a state of health, both physically, mentally, spiritually, and socially that enables everyone to live a socially and economically productive life, as outlined in Article 1 Paragraph 1 (Komalawati, 2020). Supportive health resources, such as health workers, such as doctors, dentists, and pharmacists, are needed to organize the health efforts needed by the community. These health resources include health facilities, such as hospitals, doctors' practices, dentists' practices, and pharmacies.

The simple definition of Electronic prescription (EP) can be met by different approaches as encoding the whole data of a prescription to a QR-code or a memory card. Also, the data can be sent directly to a particular pharmacy. Still, a unified national system with central storage is the only way how to guarantee wide benefits – not only the basic ones but also the advanced such as exploiting the gathered data and using automated clinical decision support. The Czech Republic at present features a widely used national EP system for its development state-of- -the art method of process modeling has been used. Most other EU countries are endowed with a similar system, although few exceptions (e.g., Germany with only a pilot phase) exist. Also, the interoperability of EP in the EU is still not widely developed with only four countries with this feature.

Prescription is a written instruction by a medical practitioner that authorizes a patient to be issued with a medicine. It is a medico legal document that should be written legibly, accurately and completely in capital letters. The present study was carried out over one month period in different private and Government clinical setups in South India. Patient and drug data was recorded that contain patient particulars, diagnosis, investigations, drug details and information from the prescriber regarding the indication of prescribing agents, duration of therapy. But survey showed most of the prescriptions contains patient particulars and medications only in which 95.5% of prescriptions are unclear; unreadable; illegible which is a serious problem that may lead to dispensing errors and treatment complications.
Husserl Studies, 1986
I examine Husserl's theory of hyletic data and the critique of his theory ventured by a number of philosophers. Building on clues uncovered in this brief examination I propose an alternative theory that resolves the problems involved in modern dualistic approaches, in Husserl's theory, and in the various critiques of that theory. This alternative theory is posed in terms of the concept of the lived body developed in the phenomenological writings of both Husserl and Merleau-Ponty.
