In this paper I argue that a country’s economy, politics, and historical background are essential to the study of their national literature. Understanding these contextual dimensions is essential because they constitute the form, content and variety of images furnishing a particular literature. Their examination also allows the comparatist to illuminate the conduits of transmission between evolving literatures. In fact, by being constitutive, these dimensions go beyond essential consideration; they are unavoidable. Whether a writer conjures her imagery in harmony with the norms implied by the economy, politics and history of her context, or conjures contra with iconoclastic contempt, she is, in either case, reacting to the same unavoidable contextual dimensions.

TERESA, JOSEFA Y ANTONIA, ROMANTIC WRITINGS IN SINGLENESS TOWARDS WOMEN'S LIBERATION2024 •
This research, about women writers from the 19th century, times of the emergence of the Mexican nation, rescues the rich literature of three single women. Teresa Vera, from the Southeast Region, Josefa Murillo, from Veracruz, and Antonia Vallejo from The Pearl of the West, write and publish despite the patriarchal mandate for domesticity to remain as "The Fair Sex": get married to take care of husband and children. The singleness of these three Mexican romantics, our first writers, will support today's Women liberation exalting freedom and the emotions and subjectivity of romanticism, to contradict the popular saying: "A woman who knows Latin neither finds a husband nor has a good end".

Εὔνοια as a notion and emotion features in literary and documentary sources of the fifth and fourth century B.C.E. In particular, its proliferation in literary texts and inscriptions of the fourth century is notable. It is clear that its use as an ethical notion and its public exhibition has been significantly popularized in the fourth century B.C.E. This shift towards popularization calls for further investigation both in the literary and documentary sources so as to pin down the convergences and divergences in the use of εὔνοια in both the fifth and the fourth century B.C.E. Moreover, an in-depth analysis of the social and cultural processes constructing εὔνοια as an individual or collective emotion is also necessary in order to achieve a better understanding of its motivation and its public display. The recurrent use of the word in formulae of fourth century inscriptions combined with the abundant use of the notion in literary sources together provide a unique body of material which calls for further investigation. The proposed research project will survey the diversity of the material but will also attempt in a systematic way to provide an overview of the use of εὔνοια both as an ethical notion and as an individual or collective emotion. Using the abundant epigraphic and literary sources, it will attempt to highlight the construction of εὔνοια through social, political and cultural achievements, its reciprocity between individual and society, and its management by both its agents and recipients.
