Opening editorial

2014, International Journal of Clinical Neurosciences and Mental Health

INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF CLINICAL NEUROSCIENCES MENTAL HEALTH AND EDITORIAL Opening editorial Rui Coelho, Rui Mota-Cardoso, Carolina Garrett, and Rui Vaz Editors of the international Journal of Clinical Neurosciences and Mental Health We are proud to share with the international scientific community these opening articles of the International Journal of Clinical Neurosciences and Mental Health. With this publication we intend to provide a forum for experts from all around the world to share their knowledge, expertise, and research efforts. We also intend to inspire debate across the entire community, improving knowledge transfer and ultimately public health. The scientific scope of this journal is by design very broad. The journal will constitute a perfect vehicle to approach transdisciplinary topics. The self-imposed—and sometimes almost arbitrary—limits of neurology, psychiatry and mental health will be blurred in this publication and papers will be judged based on their scientific soundness rather than their disciplinary categorization. But, despite this transdisciplinary approach, we can still identify some “traditional” disciplines that will be represented in the journal. In fact, the journal’s aims and scope present a very good overview of the areas involved: “Our goal is to provide high-quality publications in the areas of Psychiatry and Mental Health, Neurology, Neurosurgery and Medical Psychology”. Of course, some interlinks with other disciplines are always welcome (and even encouraged!) in order to provide integrated approaches to clinical neurosciences and mental health. Besides this wide scientific scope, we will also provide authors the opportunity to publish different types of articles, which are suited for different communication needs. Articles in this journal will range from the traditional original research and review articles, to drug reviews, case reports and snippets, viewpoints, and letters to the editor. Authors are encouraged to freely submit their best efforts for each of these article categories. Occasionally, guest editorials may also be published following proper selection by the journal editors. The International Journal of Clinical Neurosciences and Mental Health will operate under an open access model. This means that articles will be freely available to every Internet user, without the need for any form of subscription or registration. This is a publication model that has already been well established over the years. We believe that by operating in this manner, authors will beneficiate from an incomparably larger audience, and thus they can maximize the impact of their efforts. Open access also means that authors remain the copyright holders of their published papers. Here, they grant the community (and the journal, of course) the right to copy, distribute, display, use commercially, and even make derivative works of the paper, provided the third party (the person who uses the published works) properly credits the original author. As a reader, you are free to follow, share, distribute, and of course, you are also encouraged to provide feedback through letters to the editor.
