This study investigated the mathematics teachers' awareness in the use of mathematical softwares in Secondary Schools in Benue State. The study adopted a survey research design and the study area was Benue State of Nigeria. A sample of 60 mathematics teachers out the entire mathematics teachers in all the government approved secondary schools in the state was used. Purposive and simple random sampling techniques were used in arriving at the number of mathematics teachers used for the study. The instrument for data collection was Mathematical Software Awareness Inventory (MSAI), it had three parts with five items each and was validated by 3 experts. A reliability coefficient of 0.81was arrived at using Cronbach Alpha formula. Descriptive statistics of Mean and Standard Deviation were used for answering the research questions. The study showed that the mathematics teachers in Benue state are not aware of the benefits of mathematical softwares and have not been using them in the teaching of mathematics. The study recommended among others the introduction of mathematical softwares as a core course for all mathematics teachers training institutes.

IMPACT OF TEACHER CHARACTERISTICS ON STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS2018 •
The study examined the impact of teacher characteristics on students’ academic performance in public secondary schools in Enugu North Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey design and a sample size of four hundred was selected from a population of nine hundred and sixty-eight using the Taro Yamane sample size formula. Two research questions and two hypotheses were proposed for the study in line with the study objectives. The Average Mean Score was used to analyze responses for the research questions while Multiple Regression Analysis was used to test the five hypotheses proposed for the study to ascertain the relationship that exist between academic performance and teachers’ characteristics. The findings of the study show that the independent variables (teachers’ knowledge of subject matter and teaching method) all correlated significantly and positively with the dependent variable (students’ academic performance). Among other recommendations, the paper recommends that government should embark on time to time monitoring and evaluation of teachers to ensure that teachers carry out their duties effectively in line with the guidelines of the teaching profession and that Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) should introduce tests and examination for teachers at regular intervals based on the subject they teach and general teaching practice. Furthermore, geography teachers should incorporate field trips and excursions as integral part of their teaching method, since geography is more of a field experience than classroom subject.
Declining Academic Performance in Multi-faith Religious Education in Botswana Public Junior Secondary Schools
Declining Academic Performance in Multi-faith Religious Education in Botswana Public Junior Secondary Schools2021 •
The study investigated the possible causes regarding the decline of students' academic performance in Religious Education in the national examinations. From the findings it is clear that Religious Education (RE) teachers are not aware that there has been a shift in the teaching of the subject from the phenomenological approach to the interpretive approach. Teachers' inadequate knowledge and competency about the approach to be used necessarily affects the way in which they teach and assess, hence eventually affecting negatively the students' academic performance. In order to improve the academic performance of students, all relevant stakeholders have to work together as a team.

Benchmark Journals Effects of Collaborative Learning on Academic Performance of Students in Technical Drawing in Rivers2018 •
The study investigated the effects of collaborative learning on academic achievement of students in Technical Drawing in Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The study adopted quasi-experimental pre-test post-test control design. A sample size of 28 technical education first year students out of a population of 55 students of technical education department in the University was purposively sampled for the study. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The instrument used for data collection was Technical Drawing Achievement Test (TDAT), which was validated and its reliability coefficient of 0.86 was obtained using Kuder-Richardson formula. Mean was used to analyze data for the two research questions while t-test was used to test the two null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The major finding revealed an improvement in students' academic performance in Technical Drawing after being taught with collaborative learning. Based on the finding, it was recommended amongst others that teachers should orient and appropriate students' tasks, encourage students' social interaction in class and facilitate students' collaboration in any Technical Drawing class.
This study investigated problems of school management and secondary school students' academic performance in Calabar Education Zone of Cross River State. Two null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The study adopted an ex-post facto research design. Proportionate stratified sampling technique was employed in selecting a sample of 3616 students out of the population of 18, 078 students. " Problems of School Management Questionnaire (PSMQ), " and Senior Secondary Mathematics Achievement Test (SSMAT) were the instruments designed by the researcher, were used for data collection. The data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics; while the null hypotheses were tested at .05 level of significance using population t-test and multiple regression analyses where applicable. Microsoft Excel 2016 spreadsheet program was used in the analysis of data. Findings from the study revealed among others that; secondary school students' academic performance in Calabar Education zone is significantly high, disciplinary control, classroom management, and teachers' motivation significantly influence secondary school students' academic performance respectively. Based on these results, conclusions were drawn and recommendations were made.

The Impact of Van Hieles' Geometric Model on the pedagogical Abilities of Nigeria Certificate in Education Mathematics Students in Niger State Nigeria2019 •
The purpose of this study "The Impact of Van Hieles' Geometric Model on the pedagogical Abilities of Nigeria Certificate in Education Mathematics Students in Niger State Nigeria is an intervention programme oriented towards Mathematics Teacher preparation and professional development in colleges of education. Sixty subjects (30 male and 30 female) were both purposively and randomly sampled from two colleges of education. Two instruments were used for the study, a Geometry Achievement Test (GAT 'A') and Geometry Teaching Practice Assessment with reliability coefficients r = 0.72 and 0.78 respectively. About 300 Junior Secondary School students were involved. Two null hypotheses were formulated and t-test was used to analyze the data. The study revealed that significant difference exists between NCE II mathematics students with geometric pedagogical Abilities and those without. Also, significant difference exists in Geometry performance between JSS III students taught by the Experimental group and Control group. It is recommended that there should be an increased emphasis on continual training of NCE mathematics students on geometry pedagogy even after graduation to keep them abreast of the currents research in geometry teaching and learning practices.

Challenges faced by Combined Schools in Masaiti district which hinders the provision of Quality Education2021 •
This paper discusses challenges faced by combined schools in Masaiti district which hinders the provision of quality education. A mixed methods concurrent triangulation model was used in the study. The study was conducted in all the 8 purposively sampled combined schools in Masaiti district on the Copperbelt province of Zambia. The study sample had 138 respondents comprising 77 females and 61 males. Teachers and pupils were randomly selected while school administrators and the Ministry of General Education officials were purposively sampled. Focus Group Discussions, semi-structured interviews & mixed questionnaires were the research instruments used during data collection. Pupils, school administrators and the Ministry of General Education officials were interviewed while teachers responded to a questionnaire. Qualitative data was thematically analysed while quantitative data was analysed with the help of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software. The study revealed that all combined schools in Masaiti district faced many challenges which hindered the provision of quality education to learners. Some of these challenges were; lack of teaching and learning materials, inadequate infrastructure, sexual harassment among learners, lack of parental involvement in school activities, inadequate qualified teachers and long distances covered by learners to school among others. Due to these challenges, it was revealed that these schools were recording very poor final examination results at junior secondary school level more especially in Social Studies from the time they were upgraded in 2017. But little was being done to mitigate these challenges. Based on the research findings therefore, the study recommended that the Ministry of General Education should collaborate with parents and other relevant stakeholders in order to mitigate these challenges by providing necessary teaching/learning materials and embark on construction of school infrastructure which will improve the provision of quality education in combined schools.
