Often, a country’s level of development influences the amount of waste it generates. Production and industrial activities in an economy leads to increased solid waste generation. However, efficiency of waste management adopted by a country helps to reduce the effect of waste generation. Available statistics shows that, although the municipal solid waste generation in the developing countries is still low per-capita compared to that in the developed countries, the developing countries account for more disproportionately high share of the world’s solid waste generation relative to their share of world’s income [1].

Attitude as a major determinant of a person’s behavior influences the way a teacher relates with the students and thus affects students’ academic performance. Findings revealed that: Shared vision significantly affects organisational competitive advantage of deposit money banks positively; Visionary leadership has a significant positive effect on operations of deposit money banks and Vision statement significantly improves organisational commitment to long term survival in the Deposit money banks. The study concluded that corporate visioning has a significant relationship and effect on organizational transformation. Three communities namely Umuleri, Umunze Anam that are susceptible to flooding were selected for study. The study adopted the survey research design. A Sample size of 400 adult members of households was randomly selected for the study. The questionnaire and an interview schedule were used to elicit information from household heads and key community leaders. Respondents for interviews were purposively selected while respondents for questionnaire survey were randomly selected from adult household members. Table summaries and percentages, were used in the analysis, while the chi square test was used to test the postulated hypotheses.

Survey research design was employed for this study and 380 households sampled using multi-stage sampling technique. On average, 67% of the households were willing to pay for solid waste disposal. This is so because most of the households saw waste disposal as a necessity. Those with a higher income, education and of older age were more willing to pay for solid waste disposal than those with lower income, education and younger age. In the same vein, satisfaction with waste disposal services, perceived cost of waste disposal services and knowledge of effects of poor waste disposal were all found to be positively and significantly related to willingness to pay for solid waste disposal services. Household size was found to negatively relate to willingness to pay, meaning that households with larger number of people were less willing to pay for solid waste disposal services. The study thus recommends among others that cost be factored in the designing of waste management system. Massive public awareness on the environmental and health effects of indiscriminate solid waste disposal should be embarked upon by the waste management agencies and Non-Governmental Organizations.

Three usually flooded communities namely Umuleri, Umunze Anam and Onitsha were selected for study. The study adopted the survey research design. Sample size of 400 households was randomly selected from the three communities for study. The questionnaire and an interview schedule were used to elicit information from household heads and key community leaders. Respondents for interviews were purposively selected while respondents for questionnaire survey were randomly selected. Tables, percentages, and charts were used in the analysis, while the chi square test was used to test the postulated hypotheses. Findings show that the major cause of flooding in the area was increased rainfall. To contain the floods indigenous coping strategies adopted by the communities include construction of floodways/local drainages, raising the plinths of houses/shops, early planting and harvesting, planting flood resistant crops, sand bagging around houses/shops, manual water bailing system. These measures helped to reduce the damages caused by flooding prior to 2012 but wasn't sufficient to manage the 2012 flooding due to the magnitude of the flood.

A structured open-ended and likert scale questionnaire were used to elicit information from 400 respondents. Tables, percentages, chart and means scores where used to analyze the research questions, while Pearson Chi Square test was used to test the postulated hypothesis. Findings show low awareness by the public of insurance enterprise in Enugu State, despite the fact that the city is viewed as an enlightened city. The image of insurance companies in Enugu State was also found to be poor. This low level of awareness coupled with the poor image of the insurance companies in the state was found to be the reason for the low demand and patronage of insurance products and services in the state. The study thus recommends among others that insurance companies should engage in trade fairs, workshops, radio/TV jingles, etc. as this will serve as effective communication strategies to enlighten the public on their products and services. Also staff and agents of insurance companies should be properly trained and monitored in other to ensure that carry out their activities in an ethical and professional manner.

teacher is determined by the teacher’s attitude. Attitude as a
major determinant of a person’s behavior influences the way a
teacher relates with the students and thus affects students’
academic performance. The study examined teacher’s attitude as
a correlate of students’ academic performance in geography.
Descriptive survey design was adopted and a sample size of four
hundred selected from a population of nine hundred and sixtyeight
using the Taro Yamane sample size formula. Two research
questions and a research hypothesis were proposed in line with
the study objectives. Average Mean Score was used to analyze
responses for the research questions while Multiple Regression
Analysis was used to test the research hypotheses. The findings
show that attitude of teachers correlated positively and
significantly with students’ academic performance. Poor
government attitude to teachers, lack of job satisfaction, poor
remuneration and delayed salary, students’ learning interest and
absence of teaching materials/instructional aid were found to
influence the attitude of teachers. The paper strongly
recommends among others thatsalaries and remuneration of
teachers should be paid as at when due; teachers should go
beyond Instruction and focus on the interpersonal aspects of
teaching; constant in-service training should be provided for
teachers and also provision should be made for teachers to
attend educational conferences both locally and internationally
as this would help them grow on the job.
characteristics on students’ academic performance in public
secondary schools in Enugu North Local Government Area of
Enugu State, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey
design and a sample size of four hundred was selected from a
population of nine hundred and sixty-eight using the Taro
Yamane sample size formula. Two research questions and two
hypotheses were proposed for the study in line with the study
objectives. The Average Mean Score was used to analyze
responses for the research questions while Multiple Regression
Analysis was used to test the five hypotheses proposed for the
study to ascertain the relationship that exist between academic
performance and teachers’ characteristics. The findings of the
study show that the independent variables (teachers’ knowledge
of subject matter and teaching method) all correlated
significantly and positively with the dependent variable
(students’ academic performance). Among other
recommendations, the paper recommends that government
should embark on time to time monitoring and evaluation of
teachers to ensure that teachers carry out their duties effectively
in line with the guidelines of the teaching profession and that
Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) should
introduce tests and examination for teachers at regular intervals
based on the subject they teach and general teaching practice.
Furthermore, geography teachers should incorporate field trips
and excursions as integral part of their teaching method, since
geography is more of a field experience than classroom subject.
