2016, Ovidius University Annals: Economic Sciences Series
In this paper we aim to explore the topic of Schein’s career anchors in a particular local context (business higher education in Romania). In order to so, we studied the literature on career anchors and applied the test for 86 students of Bucharest University of Economic Studies, Faculty of International Business and Economics, 1st year of study. As expected, we observed a higher negative correlation between general managerial and lifestyle anchors and a series of other general relationships. More than a half of the respondents are autonomy-anchored and more than a third seem to have the entrepreneurial creativity anchor. We are cautious with respect to the results, since people without work experience might find a series of statements very interesting, but value them incorrectly based on a series of assumptions they make. For our small sample we could not validate the hypothesis that women are more lifestyle oriented than men.
This article is based on research that examined the differences between the aspirations of females and males in the workplace in terms of Schein’s career anchors and enablers. The stereotype that females only work to ensure enhanced family lifestyles remains evident in the daily life of all (Hoobler, Lemmon & Wyane, 2014, p. 704; Mihail, 2006). Furthermore the stereotype that males’ focus is much more ambitious in terms of reaching the highest managerial achievement/technical/ functional competence is regarded as a reality within society (Hoobler, Lemmon & Wyane, 2014, p. 704; Mihail, 2006). Insight into the question whether females work to live or live to work was investigated and this article reports on the differences between females and males regarding their work life ambitions. The data resulted from a quantitative research approach and the population consisted of 4 200 employees within an Open Distance electronic Learning (ODeL) Higher Education Institution (HEI) in South Africa. The focus was on the composition of a structured career conversation framework, using the original Schein career anchors (Schein, 1978; 1990; 1996) and the three-factor career-enabler model, developed by Grobler, Bezuidenhout and Rudolph (2014). Descriptive statistics, chi-square statistics as well as independent t-test analysis was used to identify the differences between genders with regard to career anchors and career enablers in different career stages. The results of the analysis illustrated that females focus more on the autonomy/independence- and lifestyle integration career anchors than males in the first 3 years of employment, thereafter their focus remains more on the lifestyle integration career anchor than males. Males however focus more on the general managerial career anchor in the first 3 years of their careers than women; and after 3 years males’ focus moves more to the entrepreneurial creativity career anchor. The reported differences between females and males bring forth further research questions worthwhile investigating – the difference between academic versus support female staff and the situation in other business environments.
Purpose – To analyze the relationships between career anchors and young Generation Y professionals' values, from the career concept perspective. Design/methodology/approach – Research concerning the proposed objective was carried out through quantitative research involving 189 Business Administration majors from a Catholic university in São Paulo, Brazil. We used two instruments to identify the career anchors and values of respondents: Schein (1990) and Schwartz (1994), respectively. We used statistical techniques to explore the relationships between career anchors and values. Findings – Among the results, mention should be made to the statistical relationships found between analyzed career anchors and values. It is also important to stress that, although the Lifestyle career anchor was predominantly present in the conglomerate division, this anchor was the predominant characteristic in the differentiation of the smaller group of respondents, the new career group. The General Management Career Anchor, which presents a lower incidence, is the predominant characteristic of the larger group, referring to organizational careers. As well as the Lifestyle career anchor, the Hedonism value was predominant among respondents. Originality/value – The need to consider the following was found: Generation Y presents generational characteristics that drive people management to propose work structures that offer activities to generate learning, pleasure, self-fulfillment and conciliation between work and personal life.

Career Anchors: A Study with Indian Management Students2017 •
The objective of this study is to ascertain the career anchors of postgraduate management students using Schein's (1974) Career Anchor Scale, and to identify the priority of these career anchors of Indian management students within different specializations, viz. marketing, finance, human resource, and operations management. The study additionally aims to identify the differences in patterns of career anchor combinations across the different streams of management students. The study has significance and relevance to management students as this will enable them to better decide and choose their career path, thereby enabling them to gain appropriate understanding for prospective careers and job profiles in organizations. This study is expected to contribute to the existing body of knowledge that would enable management students to recognize and manage their talent to the fullest in the present-day workplace.

Career Paths, Images and Anchors: A Study with Brazilian Professionals2014 •
This article analyses career anchors changes associated to images and professionals trajectories. Its main question: Do anchors careers change through time? We conducted twelve interviews involving professionals from the Administration Area, applying Schein's Career Anchors Inventory (1993). We did the same two years later. In both of them, the Lifestyle anchor was the most found, reflecting the need of a balance between family life and work. It was observed that the main anchors tend to remain as such, but in some cases, it is possible to observe changes which are associated to career transitions. The reapplication of the Inventory supports the use of this tool mainly due the relative stability founded in the career anchors, in different moments.

The #bikenaleite extension Project, developed during the second semester of 2015 in the Architecture and Urbanism course of the Federal University of São João del-Rei (UFSJ) had as main focus to discuss and propose collectively a cycle route to São João del-Rei/MG, and to test a section of it by means of a temporary bike lane. The proposal came from the demand often pointed out by the students, of better conditions of mobility and safety for cyclists and pedestrians in the municipality. Our premises were the integration between theory and practice, geared towards a more democratic urban planning, and a differentiated performance in the field of architecture. The extension Project was developed jointly to a design studio, involving students of the third to the sixth periods. During the realization of the temporary bike lane, a dialogue was held with pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, merchants and local business owners, in order to collect data for a critical evaluation of the action and new developments for the group. The results confirmed the need to involve the local community from the first stages of work, in order to contribute to gains of autonomy, having as horizon a growing virtualization of the process of construction, use and transformation of the public space.
