In this paper, we present a synthesis of the geophysical investigations conducted on experimental sites selected in the Lorraine salt basin and Haute-Normandie marlpits. These investigations were carried out in the frame of a partnership (scientific and industrial) research program on cavities detection and characterization using techniques of high resolution seismic, microgravity and electric resistivity. The objective of the research is three folds: (1) to develop and optimize P and S seismic vibratory sources with an enhanced procedure of generation and optimization of sweeps (2) for each technique, to define the privileged application field and limitations regarding the general context of the considered site (3) to progress in the joint interpretations of the geophysical data. Despite the good quality of the data, the results evidence the complexity in the interpretation of the geophysical response in cavities environment due mainly to the compromise between the resolution and t...

In civil engineering, the presence of underground cavities in the soil and the subsoil constitutes a serious problem for urban planning. These phenomena may give rise to many collapses, not to say sometimes catastrophically for buildings and infrastructures (roads, pipes, etc.). In the geotechnical zoning context of this risk, it is essential to know the location of the cavities in order to subdivide the area studied in areas according to the potential degree of risk. This study evaluates the application of the method Geophysics of the electrical tomography for the underground cavities detection in two plots of the Fez city. The analysis of the results shows that the plots studied are actually affected by these risks of underground cavities represented by zones of high resistivities, verified and confirmed by mechanical polls. Because this type of soil flaw unfortunately is often hidden and may bring about serious threats to the stability of the soil. In this respect, we have the ca...

Apparent Resistivity Method studies geological structures using changeability of electrical resistivity's of minerals or underground natural and artificial objects and surrounding rocks. This is realized through study of how injected electrical field is scattered underground. The main objective of this paper is to establish the optimal survey, processing and interpretation methodology of geoelectrical data surveyed above a known geological model. In the paper is treated processing and interpretation of geoelectrical data using classical " Pseudosection " technique and " Real Section " technique, comparing of results obtained from each technique and defining advantages and disadvantages of each of them. A help for a correct survey, processing and interpretation of field data gives lab modeling of geological situation and data simulation over this model. This way he has a valuable information about field surveys arrays and the shape and intensity of geoelectrical anomaly. In order to have a notable apparent resistivity contrast we have performed field surveys over an abandoned emergency tunnel in side of Faculty of Geology and Mines.
