The promotion of student engagement in simulation-based learning depends on authenticity, fidelity, and realism. Moulage is a simulation of illnesses or physical signs onto standardized patient or manikin via using makeup techniques or other elements acting as visual and tactile cues to promote learner engagement through more real-world experience. Therefore, moulage may be used broadly in medical education wherein its authenticity helps to improve the learning outcomes and performance of students in different medical branches such as dermatology, surgery, emergency medicine, anatomy, and forensic medicine. Nowadays, Moulage is already used in the assessment of a medical student as well as in the learning process in many medical schools. However, although the use of moulage as a creative simulation tool in medical education has a positive impact on the educational process, it faces many obstacles and challenges at the same time along with its tangible benefits. Therefore, moulage is not magic as well as it is not fantasy or mock, but it is a fantastic vehicle for representing and simulating the real event promoting realism and motivating students' engagement and immersion.

Objective: To determine the results of visual live anatomical demonstrations among medical students by Surgeons. Study Design: Prospective study. Setting: Department of Anatomy, Liaquat Medical and Dental College, Darul Sehat Hospital. Period: Period of 3 years on the students of Batch 2017, 2018 and 2019. Material & Methods: Total 300 students of first year medical students (MBBS) with full attendance in class over the year were included in study. The mode of presentations was theoretical, video and power-point presentations and through live surgeries. Exclusion criteria students with absenteeism in classes. Results: Out of 100 students enrolled every year, only 75 students were included due to full attendees as per inclusion criteria. Total of 225 students were enrolled. The mean age of students was 19.4 ±0.57 years in every year students. The students were assessed in their term exams and pre-prof exams and showed significant difference in pre-presentation and post-presentation s...
Journal of Ophthalmic and Vision Research
Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy of using 3D printing models in the learning process of orbital anatomy and pathology by ophthalmology residents. Methods: A quasi-experimental study was performed with 24 residents of ophthalmology at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. Each stratum was randomized into two groups. The educational booklets were distributed, and various forms of orbital 3D models were printed from orbital computed tomography (CT) scans. Knowledge enhancement on the topics was measured by comparing pretest and posttest scores. Results: Thirteen residents who were trained using traditional methods were deemed the control group; while 11 residents who were trained using the 3D printed models were classed as the intervention group. The control group was younger than the intervention group (P = 0.047). The results showed that there was a statistically significant difference in the total posttest scores between the two groups. Based on the rep...
