An Early Byzantine Ceramic Workshop on the Site of Scamnum Tribunorum in Novae (Moesia Secunda)2023 •
The Roman legionary fortress and Late Antique town of Novae was inhabited between the mid–1st c. and the early 7th c. AD. During the late 3rd c. and the first half of the 4th c. AD the settlement was gradually transformed from a strictly military site with an adjacent civilian settlement to a town with military garrison. At the same time its fortified area was enlarged to the east, spreading over parts of the earlier canabae, while its internal structure was subjected to extensive alterations. The area of the scamnum tribunorum in Novae is one of the most thoroughly studied sectors of the archaeological site. The intensive research over recent decades has produced evidence for its development from the earliest earth and timber construction period to the end of Late Antiquity. The present contribution explores an Early Byzantine kiln site, unpublished until now in detail, discovered in the north-western part of this sector during the 2006 and 2007 archaeological seasons.

Проблема организации эффективного обучения иностранному языку в многочисленных и/или разноуровневых группах в условиях постоянного сокращения часов аудиторной работы является актуальной для неязыковых вузов. Ее решение требует междисциплинарного подхода и интеграции современных педагогических, психологических и лингвистических знаний. Цель статьи-экспериментальным путем установить и проанализировать эффективность интерактивного обучения говорению на иностранном языке с наставником-ровесником во время аудиторной работы в неязыковом вузе. В статье рассматривается авторская модель наставничества. В ее основе лежат методы анализа и синтеза накопленных знаний из области зарубежной и отечественной педагогики, психологии и лингвистики, методы отбора языкового и речевого материала, эксперимента и наблю-дения, коммуникативный метод обучения говорению. В ходе проведения исследования были сформулированы критерии отбо-ра наставников-ровесников, разработан и внедрен новый структурный компонент наставничества, осуществлена успешная интеграция коммуникативного метода обучения иноязычному говорению в авторскую модель наставничества, выделены этапы обучения говорению, для каждого этапа про-изведен отбор речевых упражнений. Систематическая организация наставничества, согласованная работа студентов в парах/тройках, следование этапам обучения говорению, языковой материал, соответ-ствующий знаниям и опыту студентов обеспечили абсолютное включение студентов в работу на уроке, повышение мотивации к изучению иностранного языка, формирование взаимоответственности и взаимопомощи, повышение академической успеваемости наставников и подопечных. Полученные результаты вносят вклад в исследование проблем обучения говорению и мотивируют к дальнейшему изучению наставничества сверстников и постановке дополнительных экспериментов. Teaching foreign language speaking skills to students of the same academic group having different levels of language proficiency within a restricted time period is an urgent problem for non-linguistic universities. Its solution requires an interdisciplinary approach and the integration of modern pedagogical, psychological and linguistic knowledge. The aim of the study is to prove experimentally the effectiveness of peer assisted learning organized within the regular classroom settings. The study is concerned with a peer assisted learning strategy aimed at the development of EFL speaking skills of low-skilled students. Unlike international practice of extra-curricular peer tutoring the given strategy is used among well-acquainted students within the regular classroom settings. Peer assisted learning is based on both qualitative and quantitative methods such as data collection of both foreign and Russian teachers, linguists and psychologists, analysis and generalizations along with the communicative language teaching method, experiment and observation. As a result, the criteria for selection of peer tutors were formulated, a new structural component of peer assisted learning was developed and implemented, stages of teaching EFL speaking skills were pointed out, vocabulary and exercises appropriate to students’ knowledge and experience were selected. The researched model of peer assisted learning made it possible to integrate basic principles of the communicative method. Through peer assisted learning tutees benefit by developing and practicing communicative skills, increasing motivation. All tutors and tutees are actively engaged in work, develop responsibility and collaboration, and improve academic achievements. The effectiveness is provided by systematic peer assisted learning, coordinated work of students in pairs/threes, taking top-down and bottomup approaches to teaching speaking, proper selection of vocabulary and exercises. The obtained results contribute to the study of problems of teaching speaking and motivate further study of peer tutoring and making additional experiments.

A digitization project for Bulgarian folk songs Information technologies for presentation of Bulgarian folk songs with music, notes and text in a digital library has been started last year, joining the efforts of various experts from three institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia University and New Bulgarian University. The research that is carried out under this project aims at the development of a technology and corresponding supporting software tools for the creation and usage of heterogeneous institutional digital libraries. The tools will satisfy the needs of the researchers for information technologies in the fields of ethnology, ethnomusicology and folkloristic.
