[Name of the Writer] [Name of Instructor] [Subject] [Date] September 11 Attacks Introduction In 2001, al-Qaeda, an Islamic terrorist group launched four coordinated attacks in United States. The target locations for the attacks were the metropolitan area of Washington D.C and New York City. Nineteen terrorists of al-Qaeda hijacked four passenger airlines. The purpose of hijacking was to use the airliners for the suicidal attacks to destroy the World Trade Center complex (Leach & Neil, 2003, p.75-92). The causalities resulted from the attacks closed at 2,996 people including 2,977 innocent victims and 19 hijackers. Almost all the victims were civilians. It includes 55 military personnel killed at Pentagon (Perrin & Andrew, 2005, p.167-194). The attacks resulted into the complete destruction of numerous buildings at the site of World trade Center including the 110 floors of the Twin Towers. The 9/11 attacks also damaged the St Nicholas Greek church badly. The end report of deaths reported to be 6,000 actually the double that eventually confirmed at the time of attacks (Leach & Neil, 2003, p.75-92). Discussion In 9/11 attacks, two of the hijacked airliner were crashed into the south and north towers of the world trade center. Both the towers collapsed within two hours. The resulting damage and fire cause the partial or full damage to the other buildings in the complex. It caused the complete destruction of the other ten big structures in the surroundings (Perrin & Andrew, 2005, p.167-194). The third airliner crashed into the Head quarter of the Defense Department in Pentagon. The fourth airliner targeted the Washington D.C. but lead to a fractional collapse in the western side of Washington D.C in a field because the passengers in the plane attempted to overcome the hijackers. The incident was the deadliest in the American History for the firefighters (Perrin & Andrew, 2005, p.167-194). Osama bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaeda denied the involvement initially but claimed responsibility it in 2004. United States responded this terrorist move by launching its counter terrorism operation nationally and internationally. U.S launched War against terrorism to oppose al-Qaeda and its adherents and hence invaded Afghanistan (Leach & Neil, 2003, p.75-92). The incident results in the strengthened legislations and law enforcement in the country. U.S revived and established an aggressive strategy to eradicate the terrorism from their Homeland. The great destruction caused a severe damage to the global economy. The cleanup of the wreckage and Pentagon repair took a whole year and finished in May, 2002(Perrin & Andrew, 2005, p.167-194). September 11 attacks raised many question on the United Sates defense system, from which some were answered and other remains in the minds of people. For many people 9/11 conspiracy was itself a smoking gun pointing to offense, the shaky excuses of huge series of incompetence and endless coincidences. But on the whole, it is one of the deadliest fairy tales that no one could have ever imagined to use planes as weapons (Perrin & Andrew, 2005, p.167-194). Conclusion The incident shattered hundreds of innocent families leaving them shedding tears for their loved ones. Several memorials have been built for the innocent victims that include National 11 September Memorial, Pentagon memorial, New York Museum and Flight 93 Museum in Pennsylvania. The new concrete reconstruction of WTC began in November 2006 and is almost complete. The site will be officially launched once again in early 2014 (Leach & Neil, 2003, p.75-92).
