Strict requirements that are put on mechanical constructions from the aspect of increase of exploitation periods and reduction of their weights, therefore of
their prices as well, implicate developments and applications of new composite materials with matrices of lightweight metals. Composite materials with
metal matrices are used for engine cylinders, pistons, disc and drum brakes, Cardan shafts and for other elements in automotive and aviation industry. The
most important type of metallic materials is composite materials with matrices of aluminium alloys due to a set of their beneficial properties. Improvement
of mechanical, especially tribological properties of hybrid composites were provided by the use of certain reinforce materials such as SiC, Al2O3 and
graphite in defined weight or volumetric share. New developed hybrid composites with aluminium matrices have significantly higher resistance to wear,
higher specific stiffness and higher resistance to fatigue. By the increase of quantities of produced elements made of hybrid composites, decrease of their

In recent days, the silicon carbide particulate reinforced aluminium metal matrix composites are most promising material in various engineering applications due to their strength to weight ratio, wear resistance and thermal resistance over the non-reinforced alloys. However, these materials are very difficult to cut by conventional machining methods due to the presence of silicon carbide particles. To overcome this limitation, the wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) is employed to machine these composites. The aim of this study is to optimize the process parameters in wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) of Al6061/SiCp composite using AHP-TOPSIS method. Al 6061/2% SiCp/3 µm particulate metal matrix composite is fabricated by using stir casting method and the uniformity of particle distribution was analyzed by SEM. Taguchi L 18 orthogonal array is designed by considering various process parameters viz. Wire Type (WT), Pulse ON Time (T ON), Pulse OFF Time (T OFF), Wire Feed rate (WF) and Sensitivity (S) for conducting WEDM experiments. The obtained experimental results were analyzed and the results revealed that Sensitivity (S) is the prevailing factor on the response characteristics of WEDM followed by pulse ON time (T ON), wire feed rate (WF), Wire Type (WT) and pulse OFF time (T OFF).

– The present paper focused on the application of fuzzy logic for predicting the surface Roughness (R a) in drilling of EN24 Steel using uncoated and coated tools. For conducting drilling experiments Taguchi L 16 orthogonal array was used. The Taguchi method and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) is employed to find out the influences of machining parameters on surface roughness for their optimization. The machining parameters used in the experiment were drilling speed, feed, tool type and coolant. The obtained experimental results were analyzed and the results revealed that coolant was the prevailing factor on the surface roughness followed by tool type, feed and speed. In addition, the fuzzy predicted values and experimental values of surface roughness are fairly close to each other. Therefore, the developed fuzzy logic model can be effectively used to predict the surface roughness in drilling of EN24 Steel.

— Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (WEDM) endorsed sensation in the production of newer materials, especially for the aerospace and medical industries. Using WEDM technology, convoluted cuts can be made through difficult-to-machine electrically conductive components with the high degree of accessible accuracy and the fine surface quality make WEDM priceless. In other hand Aluminum Metal Matrix Composites (AMMCs) are the precise materials for marine, automobile, aerospace, defense, and sports industries which are difficult to cut by conventional methods of machining. In this paper an optimal set of material and machining parameters is derived using hybrid approach called grey-fuzzy approach. For this AMMC samples are produced as per the taguchi experimental design by considering combined material and wire EDM parameters and machined using WEDM machine. The obtained responses such as kerf width, tool wear, process cost and surface roughness are optimized using grey-fuzzy approach which is obtained by combining grey relational analysis and fuzzy logic.

Now a days the utilization of aluminum material is high because of its mechanical properties, such as strength, ductility and light weight ratio. For applications that require higher stiffness and strength, aluminum alloys reinforced with particulate material are preferable than traditional aluminum alloys In this research work on Aluminum 6061 with reinforcement of Sic and Magnesium particles at different weight ratio through of stir casting route. In the present study, hardness of Al 6061 composite prepared with reinforcement of SiC particle at 5%, 10% and 15% of weight ratio is studied through Rockwell hardness testing machines. Finally the Al base MMC was tested for tensile strength and toughness.
