Analytical Philosophy of History

El objetivo del siguiente trabajo es contestar la pregunta: ¿Por qué puede haber varias historias tan diferentes acerca de un tema que parecen válidas todas? Esta pregunta se sustenta en el estudio analítico filosófico que hace Danto de la historia: "The identical event may indeed be a constituent in any number of different temporal structures. E may be collected with any number of otherwise disjointed collections of events into distinct temporal wholes. Thus, our description of E may accordingly vary as we group it with different collections of events into different temporal structures" (Danto, C. A. 1965. Pág. 167)*.

La respuesta que se otorga es, porque lógicamente todas las historias consistentes son válidas. Todo relato histórico tiene como consecuencia lógica un momento posterior que es el que pretende explicar. Por tanto, se entenderá que son válidas porque son consistentes. Lo que se desarrollará a continuación son las ideas de consistencia y justificación de la historia. No obstante, puesto que la consistencia de un relato histórico puede confundirse con algunas otras propiedades del mismo, debe considerarse que lo que se escriba acerca de la idea de justificación histórica tan sólo es una herramienta para contrastar la idea de consistencia de cualquier otra propiedad, con el fin de señalar los límites y el rango de aplicación del criterio de consistencia para calificar a un relato histórico.

Realist philosophers about history claim that entities such as documents, their sources, and events are objectively given in the reality of social history, over and above our capacity to grasp them. How is it possible to provide an account of the ontological independence of historical findings? If there is any (mis)interpretation of those findings, where does it come from? A realist of this sort is committed to provide a suitable theory to solve the problem of the reliability of historical findings. In this paper we analyse how such realist views, like Searle’s Collective Intentionality, cannot provide the solution. A different form of realism is needed. One proposal is the Documentality Theory defined by Maurizio Ferraris. This theory satisfies the test of historical realism, because its definition of a social object as an inscription of an act is able to distinguish between what a fact/event/object X of the past is, and which features X must possess in order to count as a document. Furthermore, this approach is able to discern, this way, voluntary from unintentional effects of an object/event/fact, how a social fact is instantiated as social fact indeed, which are the causes of historical events, and their different degrees of historicity.

The aim of this article is to reconstruct Paul Roth’s concept of narrative explanation and to compare it with the approaches to historical narration developed by the authors of the Poznań School of Methodology. The comparison of the concepts of narration which arose within the framework of diverse theoretical perspectives will allow me to reveal the hidden assumptions and theses of both approaches and to propose certain solutions to the problems of historical narration noticed by Paul Roth. Those are:  the presence of scientific laws in narration, the lack of the differentiation, in narration, between sentences which contain explanans and explanandum, and the understanding of truth in narration. The second section contains a discussion of Paul A. Roth’s vision of historical sciences and the third section  – his concept of narrative explanation. In section four I discuss the main assumptions of the idealizational theory of science. The focus of section five are two concepts of historical narration: Jerzy Topolski’s and Izabela Nowakowa’s; in that section I also present my own attempt at adding the so-called variant of ramified narration to the idealizational theory of historical narration. Section six contains final conclusions.

Вiтгенштейна за майже столiтню iсторiю активного осмислення значно вплинули на розвиток фiлософської думки i гуманiтарних наук в цiлому (вiд лiнгвi-стики i лiтературознавства до полiтологiї). В данiй роботi ми спробу-ємо розглянути базовi поняття фiлософiї iсторичного пiзнання iсто-ричної дiйсностi та iсторичного факту у свiтлi фiлософсько-методо-логiчних iдей Л. Вiтгенштейна, одночасно звертаючись до напрацю-вань у цьому питаннi деяких провiдних течiй сучасної фiлософiї iсто-рiї. Твердження, що свiт є сукупнiстю фактiв, а не речей, має особливу методологiчну цiннiсть для iсторичної науки, оскiльки як в онтологi-чному, так i в гносеологiчному сенсi iсторична дiйснiсть (iсторичний свiт) складається iз фактiв.
