Art World

The purpose of the article is to study the phenomenon of postmodernist Künstlerroman on the example of The Map and the Territory by Michel Houellebecq. The paper is focused on the social voyage of the artist-protagonist, Jed Martin, who enters into the art world and has to face its capitalist logic. The analysis of Michel Houellebecq's novel allows not only to trace the evolution of the young artist and his search to develop a sense of identity, but also to reveal the process inherent to the postmodernist Künstlerroman-the process of devaluation, marginalization and relativization of art.

Este doutoramento em Estudos de Arte centra-se no artista plástico, em Portugal, hoje. De acordo com o seu carácter projectual, estrutura-se em dois vectores distintos, ainda que relacionados entre si e devedores um do outro:
-Um corpo prático, assente na prática artística de atelier e dando continuidade ao percurso artístico autoral próprio (conducente à série de imagens fotográficas “Prática Artística Enquanto Ferramenta de Higiene Pessoal”);
-Um eixo reflexivo, construído a partir da análise qualitativa do conteúdo de um conjunto de entrevistas presenciais realizadas a artistas plásticos portugueses (conducente ao manifesto artístico “O Artista pelo Artista”).
Neste sentido, este estudo vai ao encontro de vinte e seis artistas plásticos contemporâneos portugueses reunidos numa amostra seleccionada pelo crítico de arte Miguel von Hafe Pérez. A saber: Alberto Carneiro, André Cepeda, André Gonçalves, Ângela Ferreira, António Olaio, Carla Cruz, Carla Filipe, Cristina Mateus, Daniel Blaufuks, Eduardo Batarda, Fernando José Pereira, Francisco Queirós, Gerardo Burmester, Joana Vasconcelos, João Pedro Vale, João Tabarra, José de Guimarães, Mafalda Santos, Marta de Menezes, Miguel Leal, Miguel Palma, Paulo Mendes, Pedro Calapez, Pedro Proença, Rui Chafes e Zulmiro de Carvalho.
O documento que reúne o conjunto das entrevistas realizadas, anexo a esta investigação, distancia-se do discurso utilizado nas retóricas das narrativas históricas, teóricas ou críticas. Aqui, procuram-se as palavras dos criadores, sem mais.

Decorrente do percurso metodológico que orientou a análise qualitativa do conteúdo, este estudo propõe o manifesto artístico "O Artista pelo Artista" enquanto resultado do exercício de investigação.

Ainda, este trabalho apresenta a série de imagens fotográficas “Prática Artística Enquanto Ferramenta de Higiene Pessoal” como projecto-tese centrado no movimento que guiou todo o processo investigativo: da reflexão sobre o outro (e sobre as suas palavras) para a reflexão sobre o próprio (e sobre a sua intimidade).

Através das vinte e seis entrevistas, do manifesto “O Artista pelo Artista” e da série de imagens “Prática Artística Enquanto Ferramenta de Higiene Pessoal”, esta investigação devolve a palavra aos próprios artistas, a todos os outros operadores da esfera artística e ao público interessado em conhecer o criador apresentado por si próprio, sem mediadores, num acto sincero, franco e generoso.

از آنجا آفرینش موسیقایی عملی سراسر اجتماعی است، تولید همواره از پربحث‌ترین مباحث جامعه‌شناسی موسیقی بوده است. از وبر (۱۹۵۸) و آدورنو (۱۹۷۸) گرفته تا سوروکین (۱۹۵۷) و الیاس (۱۳۹۶) به مسئلۀ تولید پرداخته‌اند. در نخستین نظریات این حوزه، مسئلۀ اصلی یافتن رابطه‌ای میان ساختار اجتماعی و تولید موسیقی بوده است.
با این پیشینۀ به نسبت غنی از نظریه‌های مختلف، درخت جامعه‌شناسی تولید موسیقی با ریشه‌ای قوی، در طول تطور و تکاملش، شاخ‌و‌برگ‌های نظری مختلفی به خود گرفته است. از مجموعۀ این نظریه‌پردازی‌ها، دسته‌بندی‌های مختلفی وجود دارد. یکی از این دسته‌بندی‌ها که متعلق به روی و داوْد (2010) است، رویکردهای جامعه‌شناسی موسیقی به تولید را به چهار دسته تقسیم کرده: رویکرد تولید فرهنگ (پترسون و اناند، 2004)، رویکرد جامعۀ هنری (بکر، 1982)، نظریۀ میدان (بوردیو، 1993 و 1390؛ پریور، 2008) و نظریۀ نونهادگرایی (جانسون و دیگران، 2006). دسته‌بندی آن‌ها البته اشکالاتی دارد. یکی اینکه تمام‌نما نیست و همۀ نظریه‌ها را پوشش نمی‌دهد و دیگری اینکه ضابطۀ جدایی نظریه‌ها از هم در آن روشن نیست. اگر در نظر بگیریم که این نظریه‌ها رویکردهایی‌اند عام که جامعه‌شناسان مختلفی با آن کار می‌کنند، روشن‌سازی ضوابط مشخص برای تمیزگذاری میان آن‌ها از اهمیت ویژه‌ای برخوردار است.
این دسته‌بندی را از سویی کوچک‌تر می‌توان کرد و از سوی دیگر به دایرۀ دربرداری‌اش افزود. این کار را با تغییر ضابطۀ آن می‌توان انجام داد. اگر این ضابطه را رابطۀ علی در نظر بگیریم، نظریه‌های تولید موسیقی را به دو دستۀ نظریه‌های از بالا‌به‌پایین و از پایین‌به‌بالا تقسیم می‌توان کرد. دستۀ نخست به نظریه‌هایی اشاره دارد که برای تولید موسیقی، علیت از بالا‌به‌پایین قائل‌اند و دستۀ دوم به نظریه‌هایی که برای تولید موسیقی علیت از پایین‌به‌بالا قائل‌اند.

A central theme weaving through this paper is the sociality of art objects in an essentially evolving, increasingly dynamic global art world. It examines a number of theoretical trends in anthropology concerning art production, perception, and circulation. Art objects are considered live social beings whose aesthetic value, significance, and emotional efficacy are subject to change in the course of their mobility through time and space. This paper looks at how artworks are incorporated into discourses of empowerment and advocacy, set against the emergence, growth, and intensification of networks of social relations between institutions and individuals, in a particular society and cross-culturally. It is argued that people's engagement with artworks is reinforced by the social parameters of transactional artistic fields of visual representation. Previous knowledge about the meaning and status of an artwork induces particular interpretations and influences the aesthetic experience. Case studies from the colonial Gold Coast and contemporary Ghana discussed here demonstrate that artistic subjectivity is entangled with aesthetic and other culture-specific ideologies within a sensorial sphere of knowledge and experience. This discussion highlights the theoretical implications of a processual relativist view of the performative life of the art object for the anthropological study of art.

The artistic interests and the careers of David Bowie and Andy Warhol crossed numerous times. This article sets David Bowie’s intersecting relationship across time and place with Warhol as the foundation upon which his performance as Andy Warhol in the 1996 film Basquiat (directed by Julian Schnabel) is based. My first argument is that as a musician, Bowie was influence by ‘the New York scene’ but he creatively and performatively employed over time his own metaphors for conveying the didactic. To come to play the part of Andy Warhol, draws his arc to a close of becoming recognised as the artist Andy was. I wish to draw clear parallels between the essay’s two binary relationships, between on the one hand Bowie and Warhol as real-life media self-constructions and on the other, the ways the film depicts the dyadic relationship between the art-world in New York, Basquiat and Warhol. It is against this background that David Bowie is the prime vehicle to play Andy Warhol. My specific route into this problematic is unearthing the essence of Bowie’s art-form fusions, vision and sound, which allowed him to portray in the film the dialectical tension between art and commerce, of genuine acts associated with risk and will.
