This paper aims to define the relationship between musical improvisation and the political utopia as they were practised and pursued by the Musica Elettronica Viva group, by means of a conceptual tool studied by Erich Auerbach and applied at the outset in the field of literary criticism, the so-called " figural representation ". This theorical framework was perfected by Auerbach between Thirties and Fifties to integrate his personal theory of realism with the analysis of the different layers of meaning in the Commedia by Dante Alighieri (after the theory of the " four senses " of the Scriptures by Hugh of Saint Victor). This short essay is an attempt at answering to two questions: 1) given the connection between a libertarian practise of music and a musical practise of liberty, is this connection just symbolic or isn't it rather factual? 2) How could MEV's members think to affect social structures by means of musical improvisation?
