Boot Camp

This is a story of a group of young people from around the globe who visit Zimbabwe on a cultural exchange programme that doubles up as a training experience designed to facilitate
acquisition of life skills, appreciation, mutual love and understanding. The ‘Romantic Trio’ from the United Kingdom enrols for the programme with a view to transcending their individual disabilities through cultural exposure and immersion in Zimbabwe. Through intense spiritual transportation Doug Cohen and Sarah Rhodes find meaning and identity while visiting Zimbabwe under the tutelage of two chiefs and an elderly lady called Gogo Ndoro. Initially, the group of visiting students is no more than a bunch of thrill-seeking young urbanites on a visit to darkest Africa, where they expect their worst fears and prejudices to be confirmed.

Wilderness medicine (WM) education is desired in Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship training. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions, a virtual wilderness medicine boot camp was created to share a WM experience with learners across the United States. A previously led in-person WM boot camp was converted to lecture format and delivered through video conference. This covered information relevant to WM and the sports medicine certification exam. A post intervention survey was completed by 79.5% of participants (128/161). Participants rated the virtual experience positively. Both fellows and faculty felt the virtual boot camp adequately taught WM topics (fellows [5(4-5)], faculty [5(55)], P<0.01). Both felt the virtual experience was sufficient over an in-person boot camp (fellows [4(2.75-4)], faculty [4(4-5)], P<0.01). Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to rethink teaching strategies to optimize the opportunities for learners. To date, this is the largest boot camp recorded in the literature. This was a safe and cost effective way to ensure that requirements for a WM experience were met. This virtual course could be adjusted to fit learning objectives of any specialty and tailored to accommodate any level of learning.

Båda filmerna behandlar på sitt eget unika sätt, den enskilda individens relation till sin nya roll (frivillig eller påtvingad) som soldat i det fjärran Vietnam med allt vad det kom att innebära.

We previously reported on the short-term impact of an echocardiography &quot;Boot Camp&quot; on a single class of cardiology fellows (CF). The impact of the Boot Camp on performance throughout fellowship is unknown. We enrolled four classes of CFs and two classes of cardiac ICU fellows (CVs) prospectively into the Boot Camp and compared CFs to a historical cohort. Experience with echocardiography was surveyed. Outcome measures included written pre- and post-Camp exams, a performance based test (PBT), self-efficacy assessments, numbers of echocardiograms performed, and echocardiogram quality during the last 3 months of fellowship. A total of 25 CFs and 7 CVs participated in the Boot Camp from July 2012-July 2015. Median experience score was 13/40 (4-23). Median self-efficacy improved from 22/147 (range 21-45) to 90/147 (range 49-133) (P=&lt;.001), and written scores from 14/29 (8-24) to 24/29 (13-29) (P&lt;.001).
