Canteen Management

Essentially an economic and a social history, I used the SADFI as a lens through which to explore the canteen and leisure activities of South African soldiers during the twentieth century, commencing with the founding of the South African canteen system in 1916 and ending in 1989 and the end of the "Border War."

The study is aimed to determine the level of awareness of EVSU Canteen Personnel and the Level of Performance of the canteen in terms of Food Safety and Quality Standard.
            The researchers applied the Descriptive Research Design. The data gathered are processed and interpreted. Through investigation of some facts and confirmation of information concerning the common practices of EVSU Canteen personnel about Food Safety & Quality Standards

Consumers' emotional, mental, and behavioral responses that precede or follow activities associated with the purchase, use and disposal of goods and services are key factors in a successful business venture (Kardes, Cronley, and Cline, 2011). In cafeteria management, there is a need to continually improve products and services to maintain good costumer relationship. In order to understand the complexities of cafeteria management, the researchers conducted a mixed methodology study on the consumer behavior and food selection patterns of students and staff of a community college in Angeles City. Using a self-administered, researcher-constructed questionnaire, 120 cafeteria costumers which includes students, faculty, and non-teaching staff, were invited to participate in the study. Key informant interviews were conducted to validate the results. Data gathered from the survey were treated with descriptive and inferential statistics while thematic analysis was used for the interviews. Key findings indicate that consumers (1) value products based on prices and quality, (2) tend to be influenced by their companion, and (3) will likely stick to the same product within a time frame. Results from this study was used to develop a more consumer-responsive cafeteria management program.

Canteen is a very important facility for the students through which a better standard of food and refreshments can be obtained, when compare to the make shift hotels that spring up around colleges. Moreover, through these canteens wholesome food and refreshments can be provided to the students at reasonable prices so as to make available to them a balanced sand hygienic food. This is likely to improve their health and efficiency. Canteens also serve as places where students can meet informally and refresh themselves by a relaxing conversation. The canteens are also an instruments of social change, as the students belonging to different castes will have to sit at the same tables and take their food. Thus, a canteen can help in improving the morale of the students. Further, the availability of the food stuffs within the college area reduces the botheration and saves time of the students, otherwise they will have to go out of the college. In this context the Colleges in Nigdi Pradhikaran area are observed. “Besides good environment and ventilation, adequate dining accommodation is also an essential requirement for the students. It is necessary that such accommodation should be more ample for students.”

Sustaining the students' healthy canteen food and drinks should be a priority in every school. Students share the same predicaments as school canteens serve the same food every day without considering the choice of healthy foods that the students desire. This study employed the Knowledge Discovery on Data (KDD) technique. Ninety-seven (97) out of one hundred thirty (130) junior high school students were the respondents of the study. WEKA data mining tool was used to determine the most preferred foods by the students. The data were analyzed using R programming applying the Apriori algorithm to generate the association rules. The result shows that considering the food preference of the students is the ideal way to improve the school canteen management. The study also revealed that students prefer to eat fruits like apple, orange, mango, and meat such as chicken and pork. Moreover, fruit juices were the most preferred refreshment than water. Biscuits and breads can be served also as snacks. It was discovered that pork and chicken can be partnered to moringa leaves and squash based on the result of the association rules. Health initiative programs can be implemented in the school such as menu alterations in the school canteen based on the food preference, orienting the parents, and implementing a strict policy in selling foods or snacks within the school premises. Since schools play an essential role in influencing the students' health well-being. Therefore, school canteens should consider locally based and affordable food preference

The proposed work targets to solve the issues faced by students in a university canteen by integrating a mobile application for online food ordering, together with an application for vacant seat detection for hassle-free seating space finding, food recommendation and sentiment analysis features making food ordering process in a university canteen more convenient and efficient. Our proposed system consist of three main modules which are Vacant seat detection module, Recommendation module and Feedback analysis module. We have used TensorFlow detection model for our vacant seat detection. We’ve used this model to detect people in canteen and calculate the available seats. This helps students, faculty and staff to be aware of the estimated number of canteen as customers in real-time. To ˆ implement recommendations module, our system uses item-based collaborative filtering. This module give five similar food item based on the similarity of food items. For feedback analysis module, we analyzed the sentiment of the comments received on a particular food item. A positive review is defined as a score of 4 or 5, negative rating of 1 or 2 can be considered and review with a rating of 3 is considered neutral. This is used to know the overall rating of food. All three module combined can definitely help students/faculty to save their time as well as help canteen staff members to manage everything for effectively.
