The study investigated the method of teaching soaps and detergents in secondary school Chemistry: Implication for skill acquisition for youth empowerment. The purpose of the study was to ascertain the methods used by the Chemistry teachers in teaching soaps and detergents and the skills acquired by the students in learning soaps and detergents in secondary schools. Two research questions were answered to guide the study. A descriptive survey research design was used in the study. The population of the study consisted of all senior secondary three (SS3) Chemistry teachers and students in 31 Government owned secondary schools in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State. The sample was made up of 10 SS3 Chemistry teachers and 100 SS3 Chemistry students drawn using purposive and simple random sampling techniques from 10 secondary schools in Nsukka Local Government Area. The instruments for data collection were soaps and detergents teaching method questionnaire (SDTMQ) and questionnaire on skills acquired by Chemistry students in learning soaps and detergents (QSACSLSD). The instruments were validated by three experts from Chemistry and Measurement and Evaluation Departments from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Mean and standard deviation were used in analyzing the data. The findings revealed that Chemistry teachers teach soaps and detergents in secondary schools through class discussion. The findings also revealed that the students taught soaps and detergents have not acquired the skills in soaps and detergent making. Based on these findings, recommendations were made.
