The issues facing the Great Lakes Basin, and surrounding Great Lakes communities, are multi-faceted and complex. Bill 66, the proposed Great Lakes Protection Act rightly recognizes the need for a new governance structure. However, in the development and implementation of the Act, it is urged that First Nations and Métis communities are not only provided with formal opportunities for participation, but meaningful and facilitated engagement supported by participant funding which recognizes their position of historical and continuing disadvantage, the importance of the Great Lakes to their communities, and the valuable information and insights they can offer. In the context of Bill 66, participant funding is superior to intervenor funding as it allows resources to focus on funding experts, lawyers and community organizers in identifying issues. A participant funding program under proposed Great Lakes Protection Act would yield the most meaningful participation for First Nations and provide the best results if designed such that opportunities for participation were: (i) straightforward and simple; (ii) provided early and often in planning and decision-making under approval processes related to the proposed Act.

This paper examines critically the role of the Nigerian government and other institutions in the country on the activities of the herdsmen. It further reveals the weaknesses and futility of the Nigerian legal system on other issues affecting the country particularly on the aspect of fundamental human rights. Also, the paper looks at the implications of the aforementioned issues specifically on the security challenges on the lives of the Nigerian people. In order for these national challengess to be addressed and quelled, we advocated for the need of Nigerians to translate the paraphernalia of our diversity into the apparatus of national unity for the realisation of peaceful co-existence which invariably makes the kick against these menaces in our society easier and effective.

Líderes mundiais se reúnem em duas grandes cúpulas globais na Europa: a Cúpula do G-20 em Roma, Itália, 30-31/10/2021, e a 26ª Conferência das Partes sobre Mudança Climática das Nações Unidas, ou COP26, em Glasgow, Escócia, 01-12/11/2021. A União Europeia objetiva se firmar como potência global, respaldada em resultados diplomáticos, através de determinações acatadas pelos países-membros. Os debates atuais centram-se num novo ordenamento internacional para garantir a saúde pública global e sustentabilidade, comércio e inclusão social. No que se refere à COP26, o tópico principal centra-se na mudança climática que é prejudicial à saúde 1. O aquecimento global, escrevem os autores, não é apenas um desastre ambiental, mas também expõe os humanos ao calor escaldante e a eventos climáticos extremos; aumenta a transmissão de doenças infecciosas; provoca o agravamento da insegurança alimentar, hídrica e financeira; colocando em risco o desenvolvimento sustentável; e acirrando a desigualdade global. Os dados do relatório de 2021 devem representar um "código vermelho para um futuro saudável". Nos últimos dois anos, a pandemia de coronavírus tem sido naturalmente o foco esmagador das discussões globais de saúde pública, tendo infectado 250 milhões de pessoas, matando quase 5 milhões e derrubando a economia mundial. Os efeitos da mudança climática na saúde foram mais sutis, mas implacáveis. Apresenta o posicionamento do Brasil com relação às discussões que serão realizadas na Rio+20 sobre o arcabouço institucional internacional
para o desenvolvimento sustentável. Em primeiro lugar, contextualiza-se o
debate sobre meio ambiente no Brasil, apresentando-se a organização
institucional, os principais atores envolvidos e as questões relevantes no
país. Em seguida, expõem-se os pontos substantivos do Brasil com relação à governança internacional ambiental. Além disso, apresenta-se a posição do país sobre o desenho institucional internacional para o desenvolvimento sustentável, mostrando, dentre outros aspectos, o papel de instituições como o Programa das Nações Unidas para o Meio Ambiente (PNUMA), o Conselho Econômico e Social das Nações Unidas (ECOSOC) e a Comissão de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (CDS) da ONU. Por fim, consideram-se as
coordenações do Brasil com outras partes sobre a temática.
