The structural behavior of interlocking hollow blocks load bearing wall is not explored due limited research on its structural response under the applied load till failure. This work presents experimental testing of interlocking hollow block walls having window opening under axial compression load. The experimental testing includes the effect of the reinforced stiffener around the opening on the structural response of the wall and its failure mechanism. Four wall specimens have been assembled using Putra interlocking blocks and tested under compressive axial load. The specimens are differing in the layout of reinforced stiffener around the opening. The results indicate that the responses of interlocking hollow block wall with opening are similar to the bonded masonry walls. Furthermore, vertical stiffeners play a significant effect in the structural response of the interlocking wall and leads to completely different failure mechanism of the wall.

Perancangan alat cetak bata bertautan bertujuan untuk merekayasa bahan bangunan alternatif guna memenuhi kebutuhan masyarakat akan rumah huni yang layak, sehat dan murah, berdasarkan pengembangan sistem teknologi SCHDS (Self – Contained Housing Delivery System). Dengan teknologi tepat guna, bata bertautan bisa menghemat waktu dan biaya pembangunan rumah sebab mengeliminasi bahan perekat dan tenaga ahli. Berdasarkan analisis literatur, bata menggunakan desain hollow tern dengan dimensi 25 cm x 12,5 cm x 10 cm dengan lip berukuran 2,5 cm x 1 cm serta cement to soil ratio sebesar 5 - 12%. Alat pencetak bata bermodel mekanik tekan serta sistem pesawat sederhana sebagai pengungkit yang meminimalisir biaya perawatan mesin dan risiko terjadinya kecelakaan kerja. Hasil yang hendak dicapai adalah keringkasan alat pencetak bata dan ke-rigid-an bata bertautan sesuai dengan nilai kuat tekan yang telah ditetapkan, sehingga berdampak terhadap peluang produksi bata bertautan secara massal.
