Jetties are lifeline structures as they provide a cost effective method for transporting large quantities of goods and raw materials. Jetty structures are generally located in deep sea. Generally structures are subjected to dead load, live load, wind load, earthquake load and temperature load while Jetties are subjected to additional marine loads like current load, wave load, berthing load and mooring load. This additional forces are complex in nature and hence the understanding of the forces is of importance. This paper is focused towards the calculation of various forces acting on jetty structure and its application to the model for analysis.

Located in the old medieval outskirts of Coimbra, a residential building has traditionally been named "medieval house”, due to its architecture, consistent with what was in vogue in Portuguese cities of the late medieval period. However, the opening of parietal archaeological surveys in the building revealed techniques, materials and construction systems that were used right until the eighteenth century.
The archaeological interpretation and the art-historical analysis of the architecture of the “medieval house” of Coimbra offer a unique opportunity to reflect on some architectural paradigms. Comparing it with other buildings and with iconographic sources, its chronotypology was analyzed and the diachrony of the constructive models adopted in this house demonstrated. Questioning its chronological epithet, the persistence of certain habits and constructive archetypes were explored, as well as the tension between private and public spaces, deepened by living and working in the same place.

Generally berthing jetties are constructed away from the shoreline inside the sea to get sufficient water depth for anchorage of ships. These are connected to the shore by approach jetties supported by piles. Jetty structures are generally located in deep sea. To achieve this depth and to have an economic structure, it is prefer to have pile supported structure. Thus studying the pile design is of importance. This paper includes, analysis and design of piles serving as substructure of jetty. The study has been carried by modelling jetty for 1m, 1.2m and 1.4m diameter of piles in STAAD software. The results have been extracted in terms of maximum moment, shear force, and deflection in transverse direction. Also design has been performed by preparing excel programs and cost calculation are also accomplished. Results indicate the optimum combination of pile diameter, depth, longitudinal and transverse c/c spacing between piles in terms of costs.
