L'Arche

Our Journey Thus Far was co-authored with Jeff Gilbreath, who was Executive Director of L'Arche Hamilton at the time of publication, and who is now L'Arche Ontario Regional Vice Leader. Based on archival research and extensive oral history interviewing, its contents were developed in collaboration with, and reviewed and published in book form by L'Arche Hamilton in 2014. A Second Edition was released in 2015.

Międzynarodowa Wspólnota Wiara i Światło istnieje oficjalnie od 1971 roku, a do Polski dotarła w roku 1977. Jednak jej historia zaczęła się dużo wcześniej od wydarzeń związanych z cierpieniem francuskiej rodziny Proffit, której uniemożliwiono udział w zbiorowej pielgrzymce do Lourdes, ze względu na niepełnosprawność ich dzieci. Dzięki zaangażowaniu założyciela Arki Jeana Vaniera i Marie – Helene Mathieu w 1971 roku zorganizowano pierwszą pielgrzymkę, w której uczestniczyły osoby z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną, ich rodzice i przyjaciele. To wydarzenie, w którym wzięło udział kilkanaście tysięcy ludzi z różnych krajów stało się punktem zapalnym dla powstania Ruchu Wiara i Światło skupiających osoby z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną, ich bliskich i przyjaciół zorganizowanych w małych grupach rozsianych po całym świecie. W to wielkie działo wpisuje się Polska, w której pierwsze Wspólnoty postały w latach 70 – tych XX wieku, a dziś skupiają tysiące ludzi w ponad dziewięćdziesięciu wspólnotach.

This paper compares two ways of providing care for adults with learning disabilities in a British city. It explores how different ways of supporting those who are particularly dependent affect the kind of political belonging these individuals can achieve. Most care providers in Endsleigh see caring relationships as merely instrumental to enabling people with learning disabilities to be independent in their local 'community'. In this respect, they see the relationship between bodily needs and political belonging similarly to Hannah Arendt, who argues that citizenship is achieved by mastering dependence. As a counterpoint to this mode of care, I delineate ethnographically a contrasting form of urban citizenship enabled by a Christian care provider called L'Arche. L'Arche builds a religious sociality around and in the care home. In doing so, it creates an urban community in which dependence on others is not an obstacle to, but a vehicle of political recognition. I argue that this alternative form of care challenges us to reconsider the relation between domestic dependence and public political belonging, and to investigate the diverse forms of urban citizenship that disability, dependence, and cognitive conditions require and enable. This chapter takes an anthropological approach to relationships in a community project for people with intellectual disabilities to explore the role of friendship in their lives more generally in the UK.

De 1954 et jusqu’en 1964, le rapport entre Roger Planchon et le Théâtre de la Cité d’un côté, la revue "Théâtre Populaire" et la maison d’édition L’Arche dirigée par Robert Voisin de l’autre, a été constant, intense, et, à plus d’un égard, productif. Si le travail culturel de cette revue paraît avoir en effet nourri la formation du metteur en scène lyonnais, la recherche scénique de la compagnie du Théâtre de la Comédie d’abord, du Théâtre de la Cité ensuite, semble, elle aussi, avoir intéressé tout particulièrement le comité de rédaction de "Théâtre Populaire". La pratique artistique du théâtre villeurbannais, plus spécifiquement, semble avoir allumé les espoirs mais aussi ouvert plusieurs débats au sein d’une rédaction toujours au centre des changements idéologiques, matériels et historiques du théâtre français entre les années 1950 et 1960. Afin que les traces dont nous disposons puissent nous restituer quelque chose de ce dialogue, s’efforcer à synthétiser dans les grandes lignes la chronologie de celle qui pourrait être définie une micro-histoire ne serait pas une opération oiseuse. Elle nous permet, en effet, de suivre un parcours assez long, complexe et contradictoire. Des premières critiques consacrées au Théâtre de la Comédie, en passant par les réactions à la mise  en scène de Planchon de la pièce de Brecht "Schweyk dans la Deuxième Guerre mondiale", il s’agira d’abord d’indiquer les moments clefs de ce dialogue. Enfin, grâce à des nouvelles acquisitions archivistiques, cet article propose une première lecture des échanges entre Roger Planchon et Robert Voisin au sujet de la mise en scène de la pièce "La Bonne Âme du Sé-Tchouan" de 1958, afin d'indiquer l'importance de l'action, parfois contradictoire, de ce grand éditeur français, gérant les droits de traduction et de reproduction des œuvres de Brecht en France pour le compte des ayants droit de ce dramaturge.
