"We are witnessing a concerted attempt by the RSS to establish MS Golwalkar as the ‘prophet of resurgent India’, ‘a saint’, ‘a new Vivekananda’, 'the best son of Bahratmata’, and the ‘biggest gift to Hindu society in the 20th Century’. This in spite of the fact that Golwalkar, throughout his life, remained committed to the concept of Hindutva which meant an inherent faith in Casteism, Racism and Imperialism. He stood for the establishment of a Hindu rashtra, or nation, where minorities like Muslims and Christians could exist only as second class citizens.

This book attempts to put across actual facts about Golwalkar’s life and beliefs in the light of his original writings, publications of the RSS, documents available in its archives and many other RSS documents the writer collected over the last 35 years from different parts of the country, specially the original text of Golwalkar’s book WE OR OUR NATIONHOOD DEFINED (1939) which is being reproduced in this book. Both supported the caste system, asserting the superiority of the Brahmins over other castes and the need to keep their lineage free of contamination by inter-marriages with other castes. Both regarded Islam and Christianity as non-Indian because they originated outside India and believed that unless they recognised India as their fatherland and holy land, they were to be treated as second-class citizens.
Both believed in the superiority of the Aryan race and approved of Adolf Hitler exterminating millions of Jews in gas chambers. Nevertheless they supported Zionism and Jewish State of Israel for no other reason than it was forever waging wars against its Arab neighbours who were Muslims. Islamophobia became an integral part of Hindutva…I had read his Bunch of Letters  [Bunch of Thoughts] earlier and put it out of my mind. I didn’t know of his WE OR OUR NATIONHOOD DEFINED. It was published in 1939…It has been republished with the full text and A Critique by Shamsul Islam by Pharos Press. It substantiates all of what I have said."

From the ancient periods, India is known for her compassion and respect for religions. This
respect towards religions had been based on the fact that India became the cradle of great religions such
as Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism and welcomed Semitic religions like Christianity,
Judaism, and Islam. But the attitude of the nation has been changing from the 1980s. For a few decades
the newspapers and online media, report daily of atrocities in the name of religion and religious
fundamentalism. The growth of religious extremism is at an alarming rate and it poses serious threats
towards the secular nature of India. The writings of V.D. Savarkar and M.S. Golwalkar had been crucial
in its growth.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) promoted Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power
for the second consecutive time in the history of the nation. The diverse cultures and minority religions
of the nation face serious threats. The atrocities against the minority religions became a day to day affair.
Recently the enforcement of the Citizenship Amendment Act and the application of the National Register
of Citizens by the BJP government add to the atrocities. This agitation against minority religions owes
its foundations and roots in the ideology of Hindutva.
To understand the threats that the ruling government of India possesses to its citizens we should
know its ideological background. The RSS and the BJP owe its ideological upbringing to the ideologies
of V.D Savarkar and M.S Golwalkar. This study gives priorities to the ideology of Hindu nationalism of
both Savarkar and Golwalkar. In the first chapter, the concepts of nationalism and Hindu nationalism are
introduced. The second chapter presents the Hindu rastra concept of Savarkar that he envisioned through
the book Hindutva. The third chapter of the study looks into the Hindu nationalist ideology of Golwalkar
that he presents through his work We or Our Nationhood Defined. After sorting out the key themes of
the Hindu nationalism of Savarkar and Golwalkar the fourth chapter sheds light on this ideology with the
help of critical evaluation.

HINDU NATIONALISM & RSS by Shamsul Islam [revised 4th (2022), introduction by Professor Richard Bonney]
This book traces the history of Hindu nationalism with a special focus on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as its prominent flag bearer. Through an in-depth study of archival sources and more recent documents, the author challenges the claim of Hindu nationalism as being primordial. He argues that in addition to being a modern construct, it laid the foundation of Hindu separatism or a two-nation theory which was later adopted by Muslim separatists like Mohammed Ali Jinnah. This book describes the growth of Hindu nationalism and its appearance as Hindutva which glorifies Casteism, Racism and totalitarianism. This work also investigates how the book Hindutva authored by VD Savarkar (1923) and MS Golwalkar’s We or Our Nationhood Defined (1939) continue to determine the discourse of Hindu nationalism. The author has spent more than four decades collecting and scrutinizing original RSS documents from different parts of the country, especially the ones relating to pre-Independence India. These documents are the foundation for the direction which RSS was destined to take as a sectarian Hindu separatist organization opposed to democratic, secular and egalitarian ideals.

23 मार्च 2019 को भगत सिंह, राजगुरू और सुखदेव का 88वां शहादत दिवस है।  उन्हें अँगरेज़ सरकार ने लाहौर जेल (अब पाकिस्तान में) इस जुर्म में फांसी दी थी की उन्हों ने अंग्रेज़ी साम्राजयवाद के चुंगुल  से देश को आज़ाद कराने के लिए मुक्ति-युद्ध छेड़ा था।  गोरे शासकों को यक़ीन था की इन इंक़लाबियों को जान  से मरने के बाद मुक्ति-युद्ध समाप्त हो जाएगा और उनके दुवारा प्रसारित किये जा रहे एक आज़ाद भारत जिस में बराबरी,  प्रजातंत्र और धर्मनिरपेक्षता होगी के सपने और विचारों पर विराम लग जाएगा। इतिहास इस बात का साक्षी है कि अँगरेज़ शासक, अन्य शासकों की तरह, पूरे  तौर पर ग़लत साबित हुवे। इन जवान इन्क़िलाबियों की  शहादत ने आज़ादी के विचारों को घर-घर तक पहुंचादिया और आज भी उनकी क़ुर्बानियां लोगों को याद हैं और प्रेरित करती हैं । 
गोरे शासकों ने सूली चढ़ाया और काले अँगरेज़ तमाशा देखते रहे 
लेकिन इन महान शहीदों की क़ुर्बानी की 88वीं  बरसी पर हमें यह क़तई नहीं भूलना चाहिए कि यह गोरे अँगरेज़ थे जिन्हों ने इन इन्क़िलाबियों को फांसी दी थी लेकिन उस समय मुस्लिम लीग, हिंदू-महासभा और आरएसएस से जुड़े काले अँगरेज़ या हिंदुस्तानी भी थे जो गोर शासकों की सेवा में लगे थे।  इन काले अंग्रेज़ों ने न सिर्फ़ इन क्रांतिकारियों के उद्देश्यों और आंदोलनों से दूरी बनाये रखी बल्कि  उनकी शहादत के मौक़े  पर शर्मनाक चुप्पी बनाये रखी। आरएसएस के 2 बड़े विचारक और सर्वसर्वा, के बी हेडगेवार (1889-1940)और एम् एस गोलवलकर (1906-1973) थे लेकिन इन शहीदों के बारे में, उनके संघर्ष को लेकर एक चुप्पी साधे रखी। आजकल हिन्दुत्वादी टोली के सरग़ना, आरएसएस को भी इन शहीदों की याद आ रही है।  इन के फोटो आरएसएस  आयोजनों में देखे जा सकते हैं।

शम्सुल इस्लाम दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय में राजनीती शास्त्र के अध्यापक (1973-2013) रहे हैं और जन-नाट्य कर्मी हैं। उन्हों ने एक लेखक, पत्रकार, स्तंभकार और नुक्कड़-नाटक कर्मी के तौर पर भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप में धार्मिक कट्टरता, जातिवाद, तानाशाही, अमानवीकरण, साम्राज्यवादी मंसूबों, महिलाओं, अल्पसंख्यकों और दलितों के दमन के ख़िलाफ़ हिंदी, उर्दू और अंग्रेज़ी में लगातार लिखा है और नाटक खेले हैं। वे राष्ट्रवाद के उदय और उसके धार्मिक रूपांतरों में विकास पर मौलिक शोध के लिए विश्व-भर में जाने जाते हैं। भारत के पहले स्वतंत्रता संग्राम (1857) पर उनका, समकालीन मौलिक स्रोत्रों पर आधारित, लेखन इस संग्राम से सम्बंधित उन सच्चाईयों को उजागर करता है जिनपर कभी चर्चा नहीं होई है। उनका लेखन देश की लगभग हर भाषा में उपलब्ध है।

Dalit question has been  in the centrality of  discourse for the last one century.  The paper deals with the RSS ideological  and programmatic endeavor to resolve the issue. It also traces the evolution of its social philosophy and action programmes. It is an introduction of the book "Philosophy of Social Revolution". (2014)  edited by me.

RSS SEEKS MADRAS HIGH COURT HELP FOR ERASING ITS VIOLENT ANTI-MUSLIM HERITAGE: A FIT CASE FOR PERJURY 
[This dossier is in continuation to my request to friends in Tamil Nadu that democratic-secular organizations/individuals must intervene in this case so that anti-national RSS fails to manipulate/use higher judiciary for hiding its toxic communal agenda. I have reproduced original RSS documents (except one by Rajeshwar Dayal ICS who was the first home secretary of UP after independence) for use in the courts. The original documents can be provided on demand. It is to be noted that the following narrative is restricted the times of independence. The Hindutva juggernaut under RSS is running amok 1990 onward. ]
The Madras High Court, presently, is seized of an interesting matter. RSS needs its help to hide its criminal attitude towards Indian Muslims such as calling for ethnic cleansing of Indian Muslims. According to the press reports,
"P. Chandrasekaran, secretary of the Chennai chapter of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a writ petition has been filed in the Madras High Court by objecting to a sentence in the latest Class X social science textbook of State board schools (published by the government of Tamil Nadu) that the Hindu Mahasabha as well as the RSS had taken a "pronounced anti-Muslim stance during the days that led to partition of the country on religious lines in the pre-Independence era"  [https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/tamil-nadu/rss-functionary-seeks-deletion-of-sentence-from-class-x-textbook/article30570432.ece]
Chandrasekaran's intervention on behalf of the RSS is quite perplexing as RSS keeps its roster of membership closely guarded secret. According to the petitioner the above mentioned book under the title ‘Hindu Communalism, Muslim Communalism and Indian Nationalism’ read, “The Muslim League dubbed the Congress as a Hindu organisation and claimed that it alone was the representative of the Muslims of India. Similarly, the Hindu Mahasabha and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) took a pronounced anti-Muslim stance.”  The petition argued “It has been made to appear as if that during the struggle for freedom, RSS took an Anti Muslim stance and the same had resulted in the partition of the country.” The petitioner further claimed that RSS was not against any religion but was working towards the ‘consolidation of the Hindu society.  [https://www.thenewsminute.com/article/controversial-lines-rss-be-removed-tn-school-textbooks-after-sangh-opposes-116003] He demanded that the “objectionable” sentence from English as well as Tamil versions of the textbook be deleted. This writ petition was brought before Justice P.D. Audikesavalu who quickly directed the government counsel to obtain instructions on the issue by January 22, 2020, from the School Education Department, the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation (TNTESC) and the Director of State Council for Education Research and Training (SCERT). The government of Tamil Nadu's education department submitted before the High Court that "We have formed a team to inquire into the issue. The TN school education department will strike the controversial portion from Social Science book of Class 10". Unfortunately, even before finding the truth or falsehood of the statement in the text books by its own committee, the government of Tamil Nadu told Madras High Court that it would remove certain portions pertaining to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) from class 10 textbook.

First time in the history of independent India, in-charge minister of the Cultural Ministry in the current Modi government, Prahlad Singh Patel has shocked the nation by glorifying MS Golwalkar, the 2nd Supremo of the RSS and the most prominent ideologue of the RSS till date, on his birth anniversary, February 19. In a tweet he wrote:
“Remembering a great thinker, scholar, and remarkable leader #MSGolwalkar on his birth anniversary. His thoughts will remain a source of inspiration & continue to guide generations. @prahladspatel @secycultureGOI @PMOIndia @PIBCulture @pspoffice”.
These claims about Golwalkar being "great thinker, scholar, and remarkable leader [whose] thoughts will remain a source of inspiration & continue to guide generations" made by the minister Patel who must have been appointed as minister after taking an oath that he would abide by the democratic-secular constitution of India, need to be compared with the facts and activities of Golwalkar as recorded exclusively in the archives of RSS.

Kerala Science Centre to be named after  Golwalkar: a pervert Racist and denigrator of Kerala Hindu women
According to a statement (December 4, 2020) of the Science and Technology minister Harsh Vardhan a new campus with in the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala would be named “Shri Guruji Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar National Centre for Complex Disease in Cancer and Viral Infection”.  Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar was the second Supremo of the RSS (1940-1973) and the most prominent ideologue of the RSS whom our PM credits for grooming the latter into a political leader.
It was during his term as boss of the RSS that Hindutva criminals associated both with the Hindu Mahasabha and RSS killed MK Gandhi for which RSS was banned and Golwalkar jailed. He demanded abrogation of the democratic-secular constitution of India and enforce Manusmriti (which decrees sub-human status to Sudras and women) as the constitution. He called upon Hindus to emulate Hitler who organized Holocaust to cleanse Germany of Jews for 'solving' minorities' problem in India.

Golwalkar a unabashed denigrator of Kerala Hindu women
The naming of a science centre after this guru of hate is despicable for another Kerala specific reason. Golwalkar is well-known for brazen denigration of Hindu women of Kerala. Golwalkar was invited to address the students of the School of Social Science of Gujarat University on December 17, 1960. In this address, while underlying his firm belief in the Race Theory, he touched upon the issue of cross-breeding of human beings in the Indian society in history. He said:
"Today experiments in cross-breeding are made only on animals. But the courage to make such experiments on human beings is not shown even by the so-called modern scientist of today. If some human cross-breeding is seen today it is the result not of scientific experiments but of carnal lust. Now let us see the experiments our ancestors made in this sphere. In an effort to better the human species through cross-breeding the Namboodri Brahamanas of the North were settled in Kerala.and a rule was laid down that the eldest son of a Namboodri family could marry only the daughter of Vaishya, Kashtriya or Shudra communities of Kerala. Another still more courageous rule was that the first off-spring of a married woman of any class must be fathered by a Namboodri Brahman and then she could beget children by her husband. Today this experiment will be called adultery but it was not so, as it was limited to the first child."

The above statement of Golwalkar was highly worrying in many respects. Firstly, it proved that Golwalkar believed that even in the Hindu society India had a superior Race or breed and also an inferior Race which needed to be improved through cross-breeding. Secondly, a more worrying aspect was his belief that Brahmans of the North (India) and specially Namboodri Brahamans, belonged to a superior Race. Due to this quality, Namboodri Brahamanas were sent from the North to Kerala to improve the breed of inferior Hindus there. Interestingly, this was being argued by a person who claimed to uphold the honour and unity of the Hindus world over. Thirdly, Golwalkar as a male chauvinist believed that a Namboodri Brahman male belonging to a superior Race from the North only could improve the inferior human Race from South. For him wombs of Kerala’s Hindu women enjoyed no sanctity and were simply objects of improving breed through intercourse with Namboodri Brahamanas who in no way were related to them. Thus, Golwalkar was, in fact, confirming the allegation that in the past male dominated high Caste society forced newly-wedded women of other castes to pass their first nights by sleeping with superior Caste males.
Shockingly, Golwalkar expressed these Racist, anti-women and anti-egalitarian views not in the presence of some uneducated or anti-social elements but before a noble gathering of gentry consisting of the faculty and students of a prime university in Gujarat. In fact, Golwalkar was welcomed by Dr. B. R. Shenoy, Director of the School while he arrived at the auditorium. The press reports make it clear that there was no murmur of protest against such fascist and ridiculous ideas as most of those present must have been affiliated with the RSS. It shows the degree of respectability which high caste oratory enjoyed in Gujarat and explains why Hindutva could make inroads in this region.
It is mind-blowing that despite Golwalkar holding such criminal ideas which openly denigrated women and society of Kerala, the present-day RSS-BJP rulers have dared to name a prominent science centre after him. It only shows that the Hindutva rulers are least bothered about the honour, esteem and prestige of the Keralite society. It would be a sad day for not only Kerala but democratic-secular polity of India if it is allowed to happen.
