After the rise of Web 2.0 technologies, Folksonomy emerged as one of the most popular user-centric information organization techniques in the newly reforming digital world. In the context of the rising popularity of folksonomies, this paper conceptually investigates - how can folksonomies be integrated with other ways of organizing information for building systems that could serve information users better in the future? A set of experimentation ideas of integrating folksonomy with controlled vocabularies, bibliometric maps, thesaurus-based systems, ontologies, and semantic web could inform and catalyze the design and development of folksonomy-based user-centric information organization systems in the future.

Math is a subject that most students in K-12 participate in every
school day. This includes students with learning disabilities as they
are equally accountable to meeting general math curriculum
requirements. Project SMART provided digital versions of math
textbooks modified to include MathML for use by eighth grade
students with various learning disabilities. A goal of Project
SMART was to determine whether these accessible digital
textbooks improved student test performance as compared to control groups using the same texts in print format with a traditional oral accommodation. The study also examined the extent to which using accessible math impacted student perceptions about math abilities.
Students and most teachers found the accessible digital textbooks
preferable to the print versions. This was generally reflected in
higher test scores as well as consistently positive responses from
qualitative measures obtained from ongoing student and teacher
surveys.

MathPlayer is a plug-in to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE) that renders MathML[11] visually. It also contains a number of features that make mathematical expressions accessible to people with print-disabilities. MathPlayer integrates with many screen readers including JAWS and Window-Eyes. Abstract—This paper presents a new framework for adding semantics into e-learning system. The proposed approach relies on two principles. The first principle is the automatic addition of semantic information when creating the mathematical contents. The second principle is the collaborative tagging and annotation of the e-learning contents and the use of an ontology to categorize the e-learning contents. The proposed system encodes the mathematical contents using presentation MathML with RDFa annotations. The system allows students to highlight and annotate specific parts of the e-learning contents. The objective is to add meaning into the e-learning contents, to add relationships between contents, and to create a framework to facilitate searching the contents. As the Web gains in importance and as the needs of mathematical formalism on the Web are beginning to be met by MathML, it is an opportune time to reflect on the design decisions made by the W3C Math Working Group that resulted in the verbose markup language for transport of math on the Web that MathML turns out to be. The TEX community need not be frightened by the advent of MathML, but may learn to work in the Web environment it provides. The presentation will describe some of the key aspects of MathML, and explain how it has begun to be used (by August 1999 the support for MathML may be expected to be much greater in a practical sense than it is now). Expected future developments and roles will be commented upon.
